Day 4 Completed

O'Dwyer Leads With 16 Remaining at EPT London

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

It was an exciting but short day for the remaining players in the Main Event. Just 32 started the fourth day of play and Steve O'Dwyer leads the final 16 going into the penultimate day 2,279,000. Plenty of super stars are still in the running including Team PokerStars Pro Theo Jorgensen in sixth place.

The day started with a bang as both Rumen Nanev and Frederik Andersen were knocked out in the same hand. Former EPT Grand Final winner Nicolas Chouity was the beneficiary as his pocket jacks held up against ace-king and Anderson's fives. This pot put Chouity at the top of the counts and he remained close to the number-one spot throughout the day.

One of the chip leaders at the start of Day 2, Matthias Tikerpe, was the next one to go. The unlucky Estonian ran his pocket kings into Daniel Erlandsson's aces for a pot worth more than one million chips. Chris Moorman started his day by doubling through Steven Silverman. Moorman hit two kings when his ace-king ended up all in preflop against Silverman's treys. The American pro who last cashed in an EPT back in 2009 when he finished 12th in the Grand Final busted shortly after that against Russell Carson.

Halfway through the day plenty of big bluffs were shown and both Raoul Refos and Theo Jorgensen did their best to keep the rest guessing. Refos pulled one off with queen-five of clubs while Jorgensen only needed seven-eighth off suit. Carson, runner-up at EPT Snowfest Season 6, was crippled by Moorman and then knocked out by Rory Mathews and he was gone in 26th place.

The biggest name to bust out on Day 4 was without a doubt Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier. The man with $8,110,958 in live tournament earnings up until today ran ace-nine suited into pocket sevens and he was knocked out in 25th place. John O'Shea had quite some swings today and he was the next player to bust out. One of the most successful women in poker, Annette Obrestad, was knocked out today as well when she saw her pocket jacks fail to hold up against Chouity's ace-king suited. Shortly after that the final women was send out the door when Kitty Kuo lost king-jack versus Moorman's nines.

The youngest ever EPT winner came close again but did not make it to Day 5. Mike McDonald busted on the TV table meaning Chouity is the only former winner still in the event. With 17 players left the Day 5 bubble was officially on and two players busted out during the same hand. Refos and Max Greenwood busted out and that means just 15 players will return tomorrow for Day 5.

Refos and Greenwood Bust to End the Day

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Raoul Refos
Raoul Refos

The last hand of level 22 also became the last hand of the day. Dramatic scenes saw Raoul Refos and Max Greenwood bust in the same hand on adjacent tables! Refos had the larger stack and will be given 17th place but as the two players were at different tables the prize difference will be chopped.

Refos three-bet all in from the big blind with ace-six after Tamer Kamel raised from the button. Kamel called with pocket fours and flopped a set to end it.

Meanwhile, Greenwood also three-bet all from the big blind after Mantas Visockis raised from the button with {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Visockis called and bettered Greenwood's {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds} on the {6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} board.

Full counts and recap of the day's play coming up soon.

John Eames Wins Again

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

John Eames wins the 'John Eames Invitational' at EPT London again. Quite frankly this is getting ridiculous. Mike Watson scored second place in a tough field. He should have known better than not to deal. Read more at the PokerStars Blog.

Visser Bluffs it Off and Gets it Back

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

On a {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop it was Olog Haglund who bet 36,000 and Ruben Visser, who was to his direct left, made the call. The turn brought the {2-Diamonds} and Hoglund fired out 68,000. Visser tanked for a bit and then made the call.

The river brought the {10-Diamonds} and Haglund checked to Visser who bet 90,000. Haglund tanked for a while and then called. Visser turned over {Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and lost to Haglund's {K-Spades}{5-Diamonds}.

On the very next hand Visser got his chips, 291,000 in total, all in preflop against Haglund.

Olof Haglund: {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Ruben Visser: {A-Diamonds}{2-Spades}

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} and Visser stayed alive.

McDonald Crushed

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

There are not many players who have come as close as Mike McDonald to winning a second EPT title. He's had deep run after deep run since he took down the Dortmund title back in Season 4.

Unfortunately for him another deep run has ended in disappointment. From the TV table he got all his chips in with pocket sevens but couldn't come from behind to beat Mikhail Korotkikh's pocket jacks.

Meitanis Smoked

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Ruben Visser needed that
Ruben Visser needed that

It's back to Cyprus for George Meitanis after a cooler saw him bust to Ruben Visser.

Visser, who wasn't that deep himself, opened to 35,000 before Meitanis three-bet to 100,000 from the button. He only had another 25,000 behind and he called that off after Visser raised all in.

Meitanis: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Visser: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The board ran {2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades} to hand the pot and scalp to Visser.
