Day 1b is a Wrap

The RDS' Makeshift Poker Room
The RDS' Makeshift Poker Room
Day 1 play from here in the RDS complex is officially complete. The (approx.) 75 players who made it through the evening will join the 48 Day 1a survivors tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. local time for Day 2 play.

Amongst some of the notable Day 1b names still alive in the field are Annette Obrestad, Thor Hansen, Liam Flood, Luca Pagano, Surinder Sunar, Katja Thater and Juha Helppi. Despite the large contingent of A-list pros who came out to play on Day 1b, it was Ludovic Lacay who stole the show, amassing a field-leading stack with his super aggressive strategy. We’ll post the official chip counts after the tournament staff bags up all of the chips and ships the counts our way.

Players will redraw new seats for Day 2 and we’re told play will be eight-handed to start the day. The total prizepool for the event came out to be €1,701,700 (approximately $2.45 million USD). Join us at 2:00 p.m. local time for our continued coverage of the PokerStars.com EPT Dublin as we play down to 24 players. Until then, good luck and good night from Dublin!

Seven More Hands

The tournament director has paused the tournament clock and instructed the dealers to deal seven more hands at each table.

According to Kremser, the plan for tomorrow is to play down to the money (24 players) and then on Friday we'll play down to a final table.

Tournament Tidbits

The tournament clock reads 20 minutes and counting, though we expect tournament director Thomas Kremser to stop play with approximately seven minutes remaining and instruct each table to play X number of hands to close out the night.

Surinder Sunar has lost a bit of his muster and has dropped to approximately 20,000 in chips, while Annette Obrestad has climbed to 26,000.

Ben Grundy is short-stacked at the moment, currently sitting with 4,700 in chips.

The Lacay Show

Ludovic Lacay
Ludovic Lacay
Frenchman Ludovic Lacay is putting on a poker clinic at his table, employing a hyper-aggressive strategy and playing almost every other hand. He's steadily chipped up all day and is fast approaching 100,000 in chips.

Ludovic's only major live cash occurred earlier this month and it was a big one: a second place finish at the WPT Spanish Championship, worth € 295,200.

Two Little Ducks Win a Big Pot!

Trond Eidsvig
Trond Eidsvig
Trond Eidsvig called a raise in the small blind from Aidan Quin who was in the cutoff.

The flop came down {2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and Trond checked. Aidan bet 3,000 and Trond moved all in, covering Aidan who had 20,000 left. A small dwell followed before Aidan called.

Trond: {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}
Aidan: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}

Aidan had one out as another player announced he had folded an ace, but it never materialized.

Irish-on-Irish Action!

Liam Flood
Liam Flood
Liam Flood raises on the button and Roy Brindley calls from the small blind.

The flop is nine high with two clubs, and Roy check-raises to 9,000. Liam's response is to push over the top and Roy -- pot committed now with over half his stack in the middle -- calls with {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Liam has {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} and the flush does not hit on the turn or river.

Roy Brindley is eliminated and Liam moves up to 40,000, surely the climber of the day!
