Doyle Sends E-Dog to the Rail

The Godfather
The Godfather
Doyle Brunson and Erick Lindgren got it all in pre-flop in a race situation; Doyle with pocket nines against Lindgren's {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}.

The match was locked up by the turn after the board filled out {6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, giving Doyle an unbeatable nine-high straight.

The win sets up a third round match-up between Doyle and fellow high stakes cash game player David Benyamine.

Grinding Out a Paycheck; Mizrachi Busts Gowen

Clonie Gowen put her tournament life and a potential payday on the line with {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades} against the {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs} of Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi. The flop sparkled for Gowen as it came {10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. However, fortunes turned the tables in the Grinder's favor when the {J-Spades} touched the felt on the turn. With the {7-Clubs} filling out the board on the river, Gowen's tournament ended and moved the Grinder into the money and the round of 16.

"Hersh" Eliminates Cunningham; Adds Another Signature to His Game Ball

Another win, another signature for Orel
Another win, another signature for Orel
Orel Hershiser has just moved on to the round of sixteen after besting formidable foe Allen Cunningham in what was a see-saw match the whole way. The final hand saw Hershiser call Cunningham's pre-flop all-in shove holding the {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}; Cunningham tabled a mere {K-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and Hershiser took down the pot with a pair of tens, sending Cunningham home empty handed.

Deeb Ousts Grizzle; Advances to Sweet Sixteen

Sam Grizzle was a heavy favorite to double up through opponent Freddy Deeb after getting it all in with pocket kings against Deeb's {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} in a pre-flop all in confrontation, but when an ace appeared in the door, Grizzle's plans were foiled. The entire board filled out {A-Spades}{3-Hearts}{J-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Deeb took down the pot and the match with a single pair of aces.

The win guaranteed Mr. Deeb a spot in the sweet sixteen, where he will face off against a very hot Orel Hershiser.

Grizzle's elimination completes round two for players in the Hearts and Diamonds brackets, setting up the following round three pairings:

Andy Bloch
v.
Scott Fischman

Hershiser
v.
Deeb

Huck Seed
v.
Michael Mizrachi

David Benyamine
v.
Doyle Brunson

The Clubs and Spades brackets will begin momentarily.

Second Round Bracelet Battles

Greg Raymer shows off his main event bracelet to opponent Scott Clements
Greg Raymer shows off his main event bracelet to opponent Scott Clements
This part of the bracket has some very interesting match-ups. It all starts with the epic match-up of Phil Ivey and Johnny Chan. Between the two of them they own more bracelets than most could ever dream of winning.

Another bracelet battle that should be promising is that of Scott Clements v. Greg Raymer. While Raymer holds a main event bracelet lead over Clements, Scott actually doubles Raymer's bracelet accomplishments with two of his own.

Calm Before the Storm

If the early round matches are indicative of how this tournament is going to play out, the next 10-15 minutes of play should remain slow and steady, followed by a period of rapid-fire bustouts and frequent announcements of "All in and call!"

Early Reports

Phil Laak has built up a commanding chip lead over his opponent, reigning WSOP main event champion Jerry Yang. Right next door on table six, Jonathan Little has opened up a chip lead against actor turned poker player/commentator Gabe Kaplan.

Ivey Makes Quick Work of Chan; Advanaces to the Round of 16

Ivey gets miked up for his match against Johnny Chan
At the feature table, Phil Ivey and Johnny Chan got it all in on a flop of {J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}, Ivey holding {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} in front of Chan's {Q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. The turn and river blanked out {5-Diamonds}, {10-Diamonds} and Ivey's pair of jacks held up to take down the pot, eliminating Chan from the tournament.

Ivey, like fellow pro Scotty Nguyen, has played in the NBC Heads-Up Poker Championships each and every year of its three year existence. Like Nguyen, Ivey had failed to win a first round match in each of his prior attempts until yesterday, when he bested a tough opponent in PokerStars qualifier Alisha Kunza. Scotty also recorded his first ever round one victory, eliminating tournament pro Bill Edler from the Spades bracket.

With Ivey through to the round of sixteen, it's now up to Scotty to keep the pace.

Aces Hold Up

In the first showdown of the Scott Clements v. Greg Raymer match, the money went into the middle pre-flop as both showed pocker pairs: Clements {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} and Raymer {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. With a tight grip on the hand, the board ran out {10-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Clements doubled up to steal the chip lead from Raymer.
