Day 1a Started
Welcome to our coverage of the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event! Day 1a will begin today at noon as we search for a field to rival last year's 418 runners that showed up for the first day of play. Last year saw a dip in the number of entrants due to the events of Black Friday, but as time has passed we expect the number of entrants to bounce back this year.
John DiBella won this event last year and was able to pocket an astounding $1,775,000 for his efforts. DiBella, considered an amateur at the time, had only $42,405 in tournament winnings before finally proving himself on one of poker's grandest stages. He overcame a final table that included the likes of Xuan Liu, Faraz Jaka, and Kyle Julius to take home the prize.
We expect to see DiBella in the field either today or tomorrow to defend his title. Everyone that one would expect to be here will be participating in this event, though some may wait for Day 1b in order to participate in today's Open-Face Chinese Poker tournament.
Other players who will be joining us on Day 1b include David "Doc" Sands, Nick Schulman, Scott Seiver, and the rest of the players to make the final table of the $100,000 Super High Roller. Be sure to follow along with our coverage of that event as well as it will be playing down to a champion today!
Last year the field played 9 levels on Day 1 and as of now we're expecting to play 10 levels with a dinner break after level 6.
As the players begin to take their seats the mood in the room is becoming electric. What better way to kick off a new year than crowning a new millionaire at an island paradise? Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews throughout the rest of the day as we provide you with the latest coverage from the tournament floor!

We caught up to the action to see Calvin Anderson in a hand with an unknown opponent. The board read and Anderson moved out 8,000 into a pot of roughly 12,000. His opponent thought for a bit before finally announcing a call.
Anderson rolled over the ducks - for a flopped full house. His opponent mucked his hand and Anderson dragged in a solid pot early here in the first level.

We found Ted Lawson heads up in a raised pot with the flop reading . Lawson checked out of the small blind and his opponent came out swinging with a c-bet of 275. Lawson, seemingly not bullied around, moved out a raise to 625. His opponent was not deterred, though, as he moved out a 1,575 three-bet.
Lawson then went into the tank for almost two minutes before finally opting to release his hand, awarding the pot to his opponent.
