Carle Joins Table 24

With the recent breaking of table 18, Mitchell Carle was relocated to a new home and he probably wasn't thrilled when he sat down and looked at the lineup at his new table.

It features Grant Levy, Mitchell Carle, James Broom, Tim Duckworth, Manny Stavropoulos, Gursel Ali and 2005 World Champion Joe Hachem.

A formidable lineup at any poker table, let alone midway through day one of a major event.

Whose Pot is This?

The Croc didn't realize it at first either.
The Croc didn't realize it at first either.
We find Billy "The Croc" Argyros tangled up in a pot with Allistair Desplace. The flop reads {Q-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {9-Clubs}. Desplace bets out 5,000, and Croc mini-raises it to 10,000. Desplace moves all in, and Argyros quickly makes the call. Argyros confidently turns over his {Q-Spades} {9-Spades} for top two pair, while Desplace is in bad shape, tabling {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}.

The turn is an unhelpful {2-Spades}, but lightning strikes on the river. The {J-Spades} peels off, giving Desplace trip jacks.

Neither player initially realizes the correct result of the hand though, as Desplace celebrates while The Croc backs away from the table, dejected. That jack on the river was also a third spade, making Argyros the winning spade flush. Both players reacted as if Desplace had won, and the dealer had to inform them that Argyros had won. The news was bad for Allistair Desplace; losing that pot means he is out of chips, and heads to the rail. The Croc, meanwhile, has chipped up to the lead, sitting on 110,000.

Hachem Fights Back

Manny Stavropoulos and Joe Hachem saw a heads up flop of {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. Stavropoulos led from under the gun for 1,300 and Hachem made the call.

The turn was the {7-Spades} and Stavropoulos checked to Hachem who fired 2,500. Stavropoulos then check-raised to 5,500 putting the pressure back on Hachem.

Hachem thought for a moment before announcing he was all in. Hachem covered Stavropoulos who went into the tank for an eternity before eventually finding a fold.

Stavropoulos is down to 13,500 with Hachem now up to 50,000.

Racing for Rolls

After a series of raises and reraises, Jarrad Dale got all in for 36,000 chips before the flop. He was matched by Mitchell Carle, who had him covered and thus put Dale's tournament life in jeopardy.

Showdown:
Dale: {J-Hearts} {J-Spades}
Carle: {A-Hearts} {K-Spades}

Racing for a big pot, the two men watched the board run out {Q-Spades} {8-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}. Dale's horse runs faster, and he wins the race, doubling up to 73,000. Carle, meanwhile, is down to 35,000.

Croc Rockin'

Billy 'The Croc' Argyros
Billy 'The Croc' Argyros
Billy 'The Croc' Argyros is giving a lesson on big stack poker over on Table 28 and is currently sitting with 90,000 in chips.

In a recent hand relayed to us by Michael Pedley, Argyros five-bet Con Angelakis before the flop, effectively putting Angelakis to a decision for all of his chips. After quite some time in the tank, Angelakis laid it down, leaving himself 24,500 left to play with. Argyros flashed a king after Angelakis mucked.

A New Leader Emerges

Julian Powell came into the pot with a raise to 1,000. Gary Ryan made the call from the big blind, and it was heads up to the flop.

It brought {K-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {8-Clubs}. Gary Ryan checked, and Powell bet out 1,500. Ryan check-raised to 6,000, and Powell came right back over the top, reraising to 15,000. Ryan made the flat call.

Fourth street was the {10-Hearts}. Ryan grabbed control, moving all in, and Powell made the call.

Showdown:
Ryan: {K-Spades} {6-Diamonds}
Powell: {A-Clubs} {A-Spades}

The river failed to help Ryan, as the {2-Clubs} locks the pot up for Julian Powell. He has vaulted into the chip lead, sitting now on a big stack of 95,000 chips.

Korman Doubles With Big Slick

Michael Brooksreid opened with a raise to 1,100 before Sam Korman popped it up to 4,500. The action folded back to Brooksreid who decided to move all in. Brooksreid covered Korman, but he made the call.

Brooksreid: {J-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Korman: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

Brooksreid got caught making a move and when the board fell {3-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{A-Spades} he had doubled up Korman to 53,000. Brooksreid is left with about 24,000.

Sosa Hits a Double

Marco Sosa has just doubled through Sam Youssef to climb back up to 17,000 in chips.

Sosa bet 3,050 on a {7-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} flop and Youssef countered by putting Sosa all in. After some time in the tank, Sosa made the call and tabled a pocket pair of nines; Youssef showed {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}.

The rest of the board ran out {7-Diamonds}, {3-Hearts} and Sosa took down the pot with two pair, nines and sevens.

Rayan Nathan Eliminated

Mitchell Carle opened with a raise from under the gun to 750 and Barry Beyers made the call in middle position. The action folded to Rayan Nathan on the button who moved all in for his last 3,800. The blinds folded, as did Carle but Beyers made the call.

Nathan: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}
Beyers: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and Beyers spiked his ace to take the pot and end the tournament for one of Australia's best online players in Rayan Nathan.
