Lechich Eliminates Two!

Tino Lechich
Tino Lechich
A huge pot has just gone down that saw Tino Lechich send two opponents to the rail.

The chips were in preflop with Tino Lechich holding {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} against two players who incredibly held the same hand - Quoc Nguyen with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and Jarred Bottroff with {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

The board connected with Lechich as it fell {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{4-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} to eliminate both players as Lechich now sits with 90,000 chips!

Aces vs. Kings with Queens Folded

In preflop action, Augusto Silva opened with a raise to 1,500. Celina Lin made the call in next position before Alexander Ratke shoved in for 9,500 chips. Silva called the 9,500, but when struck back in his chair when Lin reraised all in after first flat-calling the 1,500. She was all in for a total of 25,000.

Silva tanked and tanked, but eventually folded his hand: {Q-?}{Q-?}. Lin turned over the {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}, justifying Silva's fold. Even she was beat though when Ratke rolled over {A-Spades} {A-Clubs}.

Things just got worse for Silva in the hand when the flop came down {Q-Hearts} {7-Spades} {6-Hearts}. He would have held top set and then won the massive pot when the turn and river came the {8-Clubs}, {J-Spades}. It was Lin's shove and Silva's fold that enabled Ratke's aces to hold up. He tripled up in the hand and now has just under 30,000 chips. Lin dropped to 16,000.

Vos Mining For Diamonds

Mark Vos
Mark Vos
Over on Table 19, we find Mark Vos mixing it up with Andrew Meldrum. On the river, the board shows {4-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}. Vos leads out with a bet of 6,000, and Meldrum thinks for a minute before matching the bet with a call.

Vos tables {J-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}, having flopped a pair and run down a flush. His hand is the winner, and he increases his stack to 37,000, sending Meldrum down to 19,000.

Watch Out for Wang

On a flop of {9-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{4-Spades} Robert Wang bet out 1,800 before Roy Bhasin made it 5,500 to go. Wang moved all in, and Bhasin called for his tournament life.

Wang tabled {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for a set as Bhasin was drawing with his {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. However it was all over on the turn as Wang caught the {9-Spades} for quads! A meaningless {Q-Diamonds} fell on the river and Bhasin exits with Wang now up to 39,000 chips.

Kobbing Collects Amongst Confusion

We were just informed of an interesting hand on the table of Karsten Kobbing. The board was double-paired, with two kings and two nines on board and Kobbing betting at the pot. He found himself a caller and Kobbing tabled pocket eights, as his pair had been counterfeited by the bigger two pair on board. However remarkably his opponent has misread the board and found himself calling with only pocket fives!

The eight kicker of Kobbing played and he collected the pot! He's now up to 80,000 chips.

Scott Spikes Set

On a flop of {6-Spades}{5-Spades}{7-Clubs} Paul Raseta fired out a bet of 5,000 before being raised to 12,000 by Andrew Scott. Raseta swiftly moved all in for 23,500 and Scott made the call.

Raseta: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Scott: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

Both players held overpairs, as Scott would need to hit a queen to take the pot. The turn delivered for Scott, as the {Q-Diamonds} on the turn left Raseta needing to hit a king to survive. The {A-Spades} wasn't it, and Raseta hits the rail as Scott, who finished runner-up at the 2008 APPT Macau High Rollers Event, now sits with a healthy 66,000 chips.

Top Pair Good for Christodoulou

Reza Vakili started with a raise to 1,100. He got action from Michael Christodoulou, and the two men went heads up to the flop.

It brought {7-Spades} {3-Hearts} {2-Diamonds}. Christodoulou checked, and Vakili bet 3,500. The checker then check-raised all in for a total of 8,125, which Vakili called.

Showdown:
Christodoulou: {6-Spades} {7-Clubs}
Vakili: {A-Hearts} {4-Spades}

The turn was the {4-Hearts}, giving Vakili a few more outs. The river was a blank {8-Hearts} though, and it's Christodoulou who takes down the pot, doubling his way to 19,000 chips. Vakili has been chopped down to 25,000.

Meldrum Takes Hit From Brinckley

Matthew Brinckley raised to 1,500 from under the gun with Andrew Meldrum making the call in the small blind.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and Meldrum checked to Brinckley who fired 2,500 into the pot. Meldrum then check-raised making it 6,500 to go, but that didn't deter Brinckley who swiftly moved all in.

It was an extra 9,575 to Meldrum but he decided to release his hand and wait for a better spot. Meldrum slips to 24,500, with Brinckley now heading in the right direction with 26,500 chips.

So Far, So Good for the Defending Champ

The reigning PokerNews Cup Main Event champion, Dory Zayneh has built his stack up rather nicely throughout the early levels of Day 1b. He's our current chip leader, sitting with over 80,000 chips after this minor battle with Tony Dunst occurred.

After one player limped in, Dunst raised to 700. Brandon Huynh called, Dory Zayneh called, the small blind called, and the limper called. With five players still in the hand, the flop came down {10-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {4-Clubs}.

The small blind and preflop limper both checked. Dunst fired 2,600. Huynh folded and Zayneh called. Both other players folded as well.

The turn was the {3-Hearts} and Dunst checked. Zayneh bet 3,500 and Dunst called.

The river was the {8-Hearts}, pairing the board with eights. Dunst checked and Zayneh bet. This time he made it 11,000. Dunst folded and Zayneh showed the {8-Spades}.

"I didn't need the repeat," announced Zayneh.

"Yes, you did," replied Dunst.
