The 2014 Seneca Summer Slam continued Saturday with Event #2, a $300 no-limit hold’em event at the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, New York. The event attracted 114 entries, and after 15 hours on the felt it was Joe Ciffa who claimed the $10,151 top prize and the trophy.

Ciffa was short stacked early in the day and signed himself up for the cash game list, but shortly before his name was called he hit a two-outer to double up and he never looked back. Ciffa is on the run of a lifetime having won the Bad Beat Jackpot at the Seneca Poker Room just last month for more than $67,000.

Ciffa defeated Dan Wagner heads-up for the title after a short heads-up match. The final table also included Chris Damick, Mark Roberts, Alex Rivera and Sam Guercio, who made his second final table in as many days at the Summer Slam.

Event #2 provided a slower structure than Friday’s turbo tournament, creating much more play in the later stages. The top 15 players received minimum paydays of $616 after Araj Ham Imani landed on the money bubble, and from there Jimmy Thomson, Todd Saffron, Travell Thomas, Tom Smolinski and Peter Raimondi earned paydays but fell shy of the final table.

Seneca Poker regular Mark Roberts exited in 10th place when his {A-Spades}{10-Clubs} was outrun by Damick’s {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. Then, after Ciffa eliminated Dan Weitzenkorn in 9th place, Damick went back to work by eliminating David Schrader (8th place) and Alex Rivera (7th place) to take a huge chip lead.

Ricky Fuller busted in sixth place at the hands of Wagner, and then Damick’s downward spiral began. His biggest slide came against Wagner when Damick had the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} on a {3-Spades}{K-Spades}{9-Spades} flop. Wagner had the {8-Spades}{2-Spades} for a flopped flush, and after all the money went in on the flop Damick bricked the turn and river. He was sent to the rail two hands later by Guercio.

Four-handed play lasted 90 minutes as the short stack doubled up eight times in a row. Eventually, Guercio moved all in for his last 220,000 and Mike Camizzi re-shoved. Dan Wagner folded his big blind and the cards were revealed.

Guercio: {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Camizzi: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{K-Spades}{10-Clubs} and Guercio's run ended in fourth place.

Camizzi was the next to go when he shoved the {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} into Joe Ciffa’s {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}. That set up the heads-up match between Ciffa and Wagner with the stacks nearly even, and Ciffa put it away early when his {A-Spades}{J-Spades} held up against Wagner’s {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}.

Sessum Wins a Monster, Takes Chip Lead

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Maurice Sessum
Maurice Sessum

Maurice Sessum just knocked out two players in a wild preflop confrontation to win the biggest pot of the tournament thus far.

Jeff Joseph opened to 3,200 and Sessum three-bet to 7,700. Tom Sartori called, and Adam Greenly moved in for 17,600 from the blinds. Joseph folded, Sessum moved all in over the top and Sartori quickly called for his tournament life.

Greenly: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}
Sessum: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}
Sartori: {J-Spades}{9-Spades}

Sartori was looking to gamble and it appeared to pay off when the flop rolled out {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, giving him a straight flush draw. The {9-Hearts} on the turn added even more outs to his hand, but the {Q-Diamonds} on the river secured the huge pot for Sessum, who pumped his fist in the air and now stands as the new chip leader.

Welcome to Event #2 of the 2014 Seneca Niagara Summer Slam!

On Friday, the 2014 Seneca Niagara Summer Slam kicked off in Niagara Falls, NY with a $200 no-limit hold'em deepstack turbo event which attracted a total of 108 entries. The fast-paced format resulted in a relatively early night as five players agreed on a deal, with Scott Hosbach being ruled the official champion.

The Summer Slam continues this morning at 11 a.m. ET with Event #2, a $300 no-limit hold'em event. Each player will receive 20,000 in chips and the blind levels will increase every 30 minutes. Registration will remain open for the first four levels and player may reenter during the first eight levels. The one-day tournament will end when a champion is crowned later this evening.

Last year, Dawn Nguyen took down the $300 NLHE event in the Summer Slam Series for $8,687. Nguyen outlasted a field of 112 and finished ahead of Jason Nablo, who took second for $5,211. We're expecting another big field today as players look to open their weekend with a long day of poker in Niagara Falls.

As always, PokerNews will be activating the MyStack App for today's tournament, allowing players to directly update their chip counts in the PokerNews blog using their iPhone or Android phone. We'll have more information about how to use My Stack once the action gets underway.

The action kicks off in less than an hour — we'll see you right here for a full day on the felt!
