Andrew Lichtenberger raised from early position to 6,500. James Carroll called in the cutoff seat as did Randall Flowers on the button. Steven Burkholder moved all in from the small blind for about 50,000 and everyone folded.
The re-draw had barely been completed when, at Table 45, Dan Cassetta opened a pot to 6,500 from middle position. Steve Brecher moved in behind Cassetta for 47,800 total. Cassetta thought things through for roughly 30 seconds. He decided to call with and found himself flipping against Brecher's pocket nines. The board rolled out to end Brecher's tournament one table short of the money.
Tally another scalp for James Carroll. He just eliminated Sam Stein in a flip, with Stein showing down against Carroll's . A king on the flop took most of the drama out of the hand; blanks on the turn and river took Stein out of the tournament.
Doug Lee just called Bryan Devonshire's all-in raise on the turn with the board reading . He held the for a straight draw while Devonshire held a set of fives. The all-in raise was worth 49,800 total.
The river was the case five with the and Devonshire made quads to double to around 120,000 chips. A nice rush has come to Devonshire after he nursed the short stack for most of the day thus far. Let's see how he does with some chips now.
Matt Stout just picked up a nice pot to add some chips to his field-leading stack. He opened the action from under the gun with a raise to 5,000. A player in middle position called and then Steven Burkholder called from the big blind. The three of them saw a flop of .
Burkholder was first up and checked. Stout fired 11,000 and the next player folded. Burkholder made the call.
After the turn put the out there, Burkholder check-folded to a bet from Stout. Stout's now on 280,000 chips.
As it often does in poker tournaments, it came down to a flip for Jeff Madsen. He opened for 5,000, then moved in for 27,000 after an opponent on his left three-bet to 18,000. That opponent quickly called.
"Do you have aces?" he asked Madsen.
"No," said Madsen. "I just can't fold this." He opened two tens, , and was racing . The flop was a clean but the on the turn was a killer for Madsen. He was on his way out of the room as soon as the hit the river.
Adam Taskinsoy moved all in for about 25,000 over the raise of Matt Stout preflop. Stout quickly called with two aces and Taskinsoy held two sixes. A blank board ran out for Taskinsoy and he was eliminated at the hands of the new and current chip leader, Stout.
