Newey Loses Small Pot After Flopping Top Set

Level 3 : 200/400, 50 ante

On the feature table, the action folded to Paul Newey who raised to 800 on the button with {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}. Besim Hot called from the small blind with {q-Hearts}{9-Spades}, while Aleksandar Tomovic paid to see a flop with {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.

Flop: {k-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

Newey slow-played after flopping a set when the action was folded over to him. The {10-Diamonds} came on the turn giving Tomovic a flush draw. Once again, Newey behaved passively and just called after Tomovic led out for 1,700.

After Hot folded, it was heads-up to the river, when Tomovic completed his flush-draw when the {9-Diamonds}. The damage could have been worse for Newey as Tomovic opted to slow-play his flush, and Newey checked behind.

The {k-Hearts} came on the river, and Olymp went all-in for almost 47,000 chips. Newey mitigated the damage of having his aces cracked by mucking his hand, thus shipping the pot over to Olymp.
