Join us at 5pm PDT on Sunday for the start of Event #30, $10,000 World Championship Limit Hold'em. Eight rounds of play are scheduled for the Sunday session, with the first thinning of the field commencing after a couple of rounds of play, once the players have a feel for others' strategies and a few big hand collisions occur.
The fixed-limit World Championship bracelet was won in 2007 by Saro Getzoyan, who outlasted a 257-player field to win $333,379. A similar field and first-place prize is expected this year.
Cards are in the air here in the Amazon room! Event #30 has just kicked off and we have a much smaller field this year than expected. We have a little over 140 entrants, and have started the day today playing seven-handed.
Players have started the day with 20,000 in chips, meaning it will take quite awhile for our first bust-out to take place today. The blinds started at 100/200, giving each player one hundred big blinds to start the event off. Even though the field is small, it's still likely to be a long, long event.
We've had several professional players arrive a little late so far today, as well as many new entrants. We started the event just shy of 130 entries and we're already up to 168. We originally started playing seven-handed, but as more and more players sign up, more seats are filled. Currently, most tables are playing nine-handed.
Jennifer Harman is playing in today's event, as is her husband Marco Traniello. Phil Ivey just arrived and took his seat, and also playing today are Michael Binger, Bill Chen, John Hennigan, and David Oppenhem
Robert Mizrachi is playing in today's event, and his brother Michael just walked in and took his seat. Jeff Lisandro is playing today, as are Chad Brown, Mickey Appleman, Huck Seed, Liz Lieu, Men "The Master" Nguyen, and Richard Brodie.
Saro Getzoyan, who won this event last year, is here to defend his title. In addition to the players we've already listed he'll also have to navigate past Alex Kravchenko, Jared Hamby, Todd Witteles, Eric Cajelais, and Justin Bonomo
This is a $10,000 World Championship event but quite a few of the players are more interested right now in the U.S. Open, where Tiger Woods is trying to tie Rocco Mediate on the 18th-hole. There are two big-screen TVs showing the final round and more eyes seem focused on Tiger than the cards.
Gary Benson and Steve Zolotow have just arrived and are taking their seats. We're also up to 188 entrants, 69 entries away from matching last year's total.
