Number Two, Meet... Number Two

Chad Brown and Shawn Sheikhan got tangled up in a hand. Each drew two cards on the first draw; Brown drew two on the second and one on the third, while Sheikhan drew one on the second and stood pat on the third. After the third draw, Brown bet and Sheikhan raised. Brown reraised, and Sheikhan rereraised. Rather than capping the action, Brown just called. Both players had "number two," 7-6-4-3-2, and chopped the pot.

The Power of Suggestion

Greg Raymer

The table folded to David Chiu who completed in the small blind. Greg Raymer checked his option in the big blind.

After the first draw, Chiu checked. "You check? I bet, baby!" said Raymer. Chiu looked at him incredulously.

"I started the tournament at Scotty Nguyen's table," explained Raymer. "I've been saying 'baby' all day."

Deeb Gives Some Back

My Main Man Freddy Deeb
My Main Man Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb has been on a tear at Blue #1. To his opponents, it must have seemed that he couldn't lose. In fact, he can.

Deeb raised from the cutoff before the first draw and was reraised by the button. He called and drew two to the button's one. Deeb then check-raised after the button bet. On the second draw, both players drew one. Deeb bet and was called.

Both players stood pat on the third draw. Again Deeb bet; again he was called. He showed down 8-7-5, but his opponent was one pip better with an 8-6-5.

A Good Time to Take a Few Hands Off?

An interesting collection around Table Blue #5 at the moment. David Sklansky, Chad Brown, Shawn Sheikhan, and Phil Hellmuth have all been seated there.

Of course, Hellmuth's seat is empty at the moment, as he's also minding a stack over in the Mixed Hold'em event.

Griffin Gone

Gavin Griffin got the last of his chips in before the first draw, and Chad Brown was his lone opponent. Brown stood pat after the first draw, while Griffin continued to draw one card on each round to the end.

Brown showed 8-6-5-3-2. Griffin had picked up a jack on the third draw, and he is eliminated. Brown has 17,700.

Griffin Flies High... For Now

After a strong start to the day, Gavin Griffin has come under fire since the dinner break. He was recently all in before the first draw for his last 2,000 in chips against one opponent. His opponent drew two, then two again, then stood pat. Griffin drew two, then one, then stood pat himself. He made 8-7-5-4-2, which was enough to take down the pot.

He is still in extreme danger of a bust-out with just 4,900 in chips.

Can't Beat That

Down to just 2,175, Mark Seif got all of his chips in before the first draw against an opponent whose hat he had signed earlier in the day.

After the third draw, Seif heard the words no poker player wants to hear from his opponent: "I have the nuts." "The nuts?" Seif responded. "Really? I can't beat the nuts." Indeed, Seif's fan-turned-adversary had drawn to a wheel, and Seif is out.

Chop It Up?

Chops are pretty uncommon in triple draw, but not entirely unheard of. Just ask Phil Hellmuth. He was involved in a three-way pot where each player put three bets in before the first draw, one before the second and third draws, and three after the third draw. It was a huge pot that would have rocketed the winner up the leaderboard, but instead it wound up chopping when Hellmuth and another player both turned over the same hand: 8-7-5-3-2. We can only imagine what was going through Hellmuth's head when he realized he was getting just half of the pot.

Baxter Back

A preflop raising war between Billy Baxter and Keith Lehr squeezed the others out. Both took two cards, Baxter bet, and Lehr called. Baxter then took one, and Lehr two. Baxter bet his last 900, and Lehr called.

On the third draw, Baxter stood pat and Lehr drew two cards. Baxter showed an 8-6-5-4-2, and Lehr mucked. Baxter is back up to 11,000.
