Bell Rung

In preflop action Chris Bell found his last 53,000 chips committed from the small blind after coming over the top of the opening late position raise of Sarang Ahuja.

Bell tabled a strong {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} but would need to improve against Ahuja's {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}.

The board fell {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} missing Bell completely and sending him to the rail as Ahuja moves up amongst the leaders with 250,000 chips.

Steve Murphy Stays Alive

Steve Murphy raised to 8,400 from the button and was called by Saranj Ahvia out of the small blind. Murphy then pushed his remaining 23,800 chips into the middle on a flop of {A-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}, forcing Ahvia out of the pot.

Murphy is still sitting with a short stack of 53,000 while Ahvia has 170,000.

Two Ladies Left

Sandra Naujoks
Sandra Naujoks
With just 121 players left in this tournament, only two of them are women. Deborah Gudinas is nursing a short stack of 33,200, while Sandra Naujoks has a slightly healthier stack of 72,000.

No Joy for Jim Meehan

After two players limped into the pot, Jim Meehan raised the action to 31,000 from the cutoff only to get reraised all in by Christian Choi in early position.

Meehan made the call and showed {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}, but was way behind Choi's {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. A flop of {K-Spades}{3-Spades}{Q-Hearts} put Choi further ahead, and the turn and river provided no help for Meehan, coming {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}.

With the win, Choi now has a chip stack of 183,000.

Philip Souza Loses Nearly Half His Stack

Leo Whitt raised to 14,000 from the button and Philip reraised all in from the small blind. Whitt instantly called, showing pocket kings to Souza's ace-9 off suit.

The board ran out {J-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, letting Whitt double up to 67,000. Souza's stack fell to 58,000.

Newburger Doubles

Jason Newburger has just found a nice double up. We didn't catch the action but we assume it was all in preflop, as Newburger's {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} was good enough to collect the chips on a {2-Spades}{7-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts} board as his opponent's cards were already in the muck. Newburger moves up to 117,000 chips.

Pesek Loses a Big One

Steve Murphy made it 6,000 to go from the hijack and Mike Pesek called from the small blind. Both players checked the flop of {5-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{K-Spades} and Pesek led out for 11,000 when the {7-Spades} hit the turn.

Murphy called and Pesek checked the {A-Spades} on the river. This time, Murphy led out for 20,000 and Pesek tanked for more than two minutes before finally making the call. His cards hit the muck when Murphy showed {A-?}{K-?} for top two pair.

Pesek's stack has shrunk to 52,000 while Murphy now has more than 145,000.

Mizzi's Airball Sends Him To Rail

Sorel Mizzi, during Event #2
Sorel Mizzi, during Event #2
In a battle of the blinds Sorel Mizzi and Qui Nguyen went to war on a flop of {6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

There was already around 20,000 in the pot when Nguyen checked to Mizzi who moved his last 22,000 into the middle. Nguyen made the call and tabled {9-Spades}{5-Spades} for top pair and a gutshot straight draw, to be well ahead of Mizzi who had nothing but imagination with his {K-Clubs}{3-Spades}.

The turn was the {6-Clubs} and river the {7-Diamonds} and the young gun is eliminated as Nguyen storms up the leaderboard to now sit with 240,000.

Naujoks Impressing

Sandra Naujoks
Sandra Naujoks
Germany's Sandra Naujoks rose to stardom in March this year when she became only the second female player to ever take down a European Poker Tour title with her $1.3 million win at the EPT Dortmund. Naujoks is certainly an eye-catcher, with her talent on the felt making the world sit up and take notice as she is definitely the real deal.

Naujoks has once again impressed in this event as she has secured her first WSOP cash finish. Looking for a deep result we recently caught her in a hand with one of our chip leaders, Jerry Fowler.

The board read {10-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds} with Fowler firing 7,000 from the small blind. Naujoks raised it up to 21,000 before Fowler moved all in. Naujoks went into the tank but found a fold to slip back to 55,000.
