Who Needs a Flop?

Two players with fairly large stacks proved that you don't always need to see a flop in order to win a nice pot.

Andrew Buechner raised to 6,300 from the button and was reraised to 15,000 by James Passavant in the big blind. Buechner reraised again, making it 42,000 to play and Passavant refused to back down, shoving all in for 123,200.

That was enough to get Buechner to cry uncle, and he folded his hand, handing the pot to Passavant, who now sits on a stack with 170,000 chips. Buechner has 145,000.

Cohen Dented by Big Slick

We caught the action on a flop of {3-Clubs}{A-Spades}{J-Diamonds} with the big blind leading out for 8,500 into one of our chip leaders, Scott Cohen.

Cohen popped it up to 20,500, but the big blind made the call. They saw the {7-Spades} fall on the turn and the big blind checked to Cohen, who slid 17,000 into the middle. Once again the bet was called.

The river landed the {6-Diamonds} and both players slowed and checked it down. The big blind revealed {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}, which was good as Cohen tapped the table and tossed his cards into the muck. Cohen slips to 105,000 chips.

Dinner Break

Of the 337 players who started today, only 163 have lasted long enough to go on dinner break for the next hour.

Cards will be back in the air at 7:10.

An Interesting Table Developing

With tables continuing to break regularly throughout the tournament, some big names and stacks are finding themselves seated together. One of the more interesting tables right now is #59, which holds Sandra Noujoks, Minneapolis Jim Meehan, and Jim Fowler.

Sorel Mizzi Takes a Hit

Rick Jackson raised to 6,000 from middle position and Sorel Mizzi reraised to 20,500 from the button. Jackson then shoved all in for 51,000 and Mizzi called, showing {A-Spades}{J-Spades} vs. Jackson's {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}.

When the board ran out {8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, Jackson doubled to 108,000 while Mizzi found himself on a short stack of just 24,300.

Set Does It for Souza

After an early position player moved all in for 19,000, Michael Souza rereaised all in over the top for 38,000 in total. The table folded around and the cards were tabled.

Souza: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Opponent: {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

The board ran out {K-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{10-Spades}{J-Clubs} and Souza spiked a set to take it down and send his opponent to the rail. Souza moves up to 62,000 chips.
