Barry Greenstein Eliminated in 5th Place ($25,000)

Barry Greenstein - 5th Place
Barry Greenstein - 5th Place

Barry Greenstein raised to 15,000, and Howard Lederer called from the big blind. The flop came {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, and all the chips went into the middle. Greenstein was all in for 115,500 with {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for both straight and flush draws. Lederer showed {a-Spades}{10-Spades} for top pair and needed to dodge a slew of outs to knock out the Bear. The turn brought the {10-Diamonds} which looked good for Lederer, but in reality, two pair only took one out from Greenstein. The river was a flash of red, and the audience murmured, but it was the {7-Diamonds}, not the right card to rescue Greenstein on the river this time. He signed a copy of his book and handed it to Lederer, then left quietly for his exit interviews.

After returning from dinner as the short stack, Lederer is now the big chip leader with 340,000.

Action folded to Howard Lederer in the small blind, and he limped in. Joe Hachem checked his option in the big, and they were heads up to an {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} flop. Lederer bet out 7,000, and Hachem called. Lederer fired another 16,000 after the {7-Clubs} turn. Once again, Hachem made the call. The river brought the {4-Diamonds}, and this time, Lederer bet 45,000. Hachem took his time to contemplate such a serious bet, and the room went silent except for the sound of fireworks going off outside. Eventually, Hachem came up with a call. Lederer showed {j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for the rivered second-nut flush to take down the pot. He's all the way up to 185,000 now, while Hachem is down to 110,000.

Barry Binks the River Again

Barry Greenstein

On the last hand before dinner, Barry Greenstein raised to 10,000, and Huck Seed called to see a {j-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop. Greenstein bet 14,000, and Seed bumped it up 34,000. Greenstein quickly three-bet shoved for a total of 77,000, and Seed snap-called.

Greenstein: {q-Spades}{6-Spades}
Seed: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

The players had been debating how long to take for dinner, and Barry wanted to start the biding at half an hour. Instead, they went with 75 minutes, so perhaps he just didn't want to have to come back. The {4-Spades} on the turn meant Greenstein was one card away from that result. But Barry had played the river rat once before today, and sometimes, it's just your day. He spiked the {6-Diamonds} on the end to make trip sixes and double through Seed. Greenstein heads to dinner with 182,500, leaving Seed with 91,500.
