David Bach Eliminated in 14th Place ($23,525)

David Bach - 14th Place
David Bach - 14th Place

David Bach started the day as second on the chip leader board, but that changed very quickly as he lost chunks of stack in the first level. Early here in the second level and Bach has been eliminated in 14th place.

We weren't at the table to catch the action, but noticed Matt Waxman was raking in plenty of new chips. We asked him what happened and Phil Hellmuth chimed in, "Mr. Waxman here hit what we in the industry call four-of-a-kind."

Waxman then filled us in that Bach opened under the gun in a round of hold'em and Waxman defended in the big blind. The board ran out {8-}{5-}{3-}{5-}{5-} and Bach got the remainder of his stack in on the turn. Waxman held {k-}{5-} and Bach {a-}{j-}, with Waxman's hand plenty enough to send Bach to the rail.

John Hennigan Eliminated in 13th Place ($23,525)

John Hennigan - 13th Place
John Hennigan - 13th Place

John Hennigan had a bad start to the day and has been the short stack for the last level or so. He recently saw his tournament life end in 13th place during a hand of Razz.

Hennigan was all-in against Paul Sokoloff and the cards were dealt face up from fourth street. Hennigan quickly flipped his cards into the muck as Sokoloff hit his {a-}{4-}{5-}{6-}{7-} on sixth street. Hennigan couldn't manage even close to that and made his way home.

Brandon Shack-Harris Eliminated in 10th Place ($35,923)

Brandon Shack-Harris - 10th Place

Omaha 8

Brandon Shack-Harris has just been eliminated shortly after the break. It was during a hand of Omaha Eight-or-Better and it was against Phil Ivey.

Shak-Harris got the remainder of his short-stack in on a flop showing {a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{a-Spades} and this is how the cards looked at this point.

Shack-Harris: {a-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts}
Ivey: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Shack-Harris flopped the full-house, but the {9-Clubs} on the turn gave Ivey a better full house and with no qualifying low to show for, the {3-Diamonds} river changed nothing and Shack-Harris was sent home in 10th place. With that, we head to our unofficial final table.

Mori Eskandani Eliminated in 9th Place ($35,923)

Mori Eskandani - 9th Place
Mori Eskandani - 9th Place

Stud 8

With the exit of Mori Eskandani in 9th place, we are heading to the final table. But first, let us explain how Eskandani's gallant elimination occurred.

It was during a hand of Stud Eight-or-Better and it all started when Paul Sokoloff brought it in with a {2-Spades} out front. Matt Waxman then made the call with his {q-Spades} and John Monnette called with a {8-Hearts}. Mori Eskandani then completed with his {a-Diamonds} and Monnette, Waxman and Sokoloff all made the call.

Sokoloff: {x-}{x-} / {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} / {x-}
Waxman: {x-}{x-} / {q-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} (FOLDED)
Monnettte: {x-}{x-} / {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} / {x-}
Eskandani: {x-}{x-} / {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} / {x-}

On fourth street, Monnette bet his pair and his three opponents called. Fifth street saw Monnette again bet and another three calls came along for the ride. On sixth street, Monnette led again and this time Eskandani raised. Sokoloff made the call and Waxman got out of the way. Monnette threw in the extra chips to call and we would see the final card dealt out.

Monnette checked on seventh and Eskandani shoved his remaining 38,000 into the pot. Sokoloff called and then Monnette check-rasied. Sokoloff called and the three players turned their hole cards over.

Eskandani held {5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} was good for a flush, but Monnette's {4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} gave him the full house. With no low for Eskandani, he was sent home. The remainder of the pot was chopped up, with Sokoloff holding {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Spades}, enough for a low.

John Monnette | {x-}{x-} / {7-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} (FOLDED)
Dan Kelly | {x-}{x-} / {2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

On fourth street, Monnette checked, Kelly bet, and Ivey called. Hellmuth raised, and only Kelly and Ivey called. On fifth, Hellmuth led, Kelly raised, Ivey folded, and Hellmuth re-raised. Kelly called.

On sixth, Hellmuth bet enough to put Kelly all in, and Kelly called.

Matt Waxman Eliminated in 7th Place ($58,093)

Matt Waxman - 7th Place
Matt Waxman - 7th Place

It took two hands to see Matt Waxman eliminated from this final table. The first was a Razz hand and it left him crippled and the very next hand was Stud and that sent him home.

The Razz hand began when John Monnette brought it in with a {j-}. Paul Sokoloff then called with a {7-} and Waxman completed with a {6-}. Sokoloff called and drew and {a-}, while Waxman drew a {j-}. Sokoloff bet and Waxman called as Sokoloff drew a {7-} and Waxman a {k-}. When Sokoloff bet here, Waxman said, "I can not beat you in a pot, no matter what," and folded his cards.

That left him with less than a big bet and on the next hand, when the rotation was changed to Stud, Waxman committed the last of his chips during the first round of betting with an {a-Clubs} showing against Abe Mosseri and John Monnette. Mosseri and Monnette battled it out until fifth street when Mosseri folded, and then the cards were turned face-up.

Monnette's {9-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} (in no particular order), was good for two-pair and enough to send Waxman's {a-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} into the muck.

For that effort, Waxman goes home with $58,093 and we are now six-handed.

Ivey in Trouble

Phil Ivey is the short stack

Stud 8

It was at the conclusion of a Stud Eight-or-Better hand that Phil Ivey would sit behind a very small chip stack. It was between Ivey and the short-at-the-time David Bakes Baker.

Ivey: {x-}{x-} / {3-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} / {x-}
Baker: {x-}{x-} / {6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades}{k-Diamonds} / {x-}

Both players committed bets on the first round of betting, then on fourth, Baker led and Ivey called. Fifth street would see Ivey lead and Baker raise it up, leaving himself with little behind. Ivey made the call and then on sixth street, put in the bet to see Baker all-in.

By the time seventh was dealt out, Baker had his {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts} hole cards on the table, enough for the low and the high, sending Ivey's cards into the muck.

Abe Mosseri Eliminated in 6th Place ($75,511)

Abe Mosseri barely had a leg to stand on when he got his stack all-in during a round of Omaha Eight-or-Better. It was against David Bakes Baker, who opened up the hand in question with a raise from under the gun. Mosseri was in the big blind and committed his last chips, with the two players turning their hands over.

Mosseri: {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
Baker: {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The {j-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{5-Spades} board was no help to Mosseri, with Baker managing to scoop up the pot to send Mosseri home in 6th place for a $75,511 score.

Razz

Phil Ivey brought it in with a {j-} up, and the action folded to John Monnette, who completed with a {6-}. Having less than two big bets, Ivey raised, putting most of his stack at risk, and Monnette re-raised all in. Ivey called.

Ivey tabled {7-}{4-}, Monnette {9-}{2-}, and the boards ran out like this:

Ivey: ({7-}{4-}) / {j-}{j-}{7-}{3-} / {x-}
Monnette: ({9-}{2-}) / {6-}{10-}{q-}{3-} / {7-}

Ivey never flipped over his downcard, rather he left the mothership to go play in Event 35: $2,500 Mixed Hold'em.
