Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi Leads The Way Into Final Table

Level 20

Day of Event 45: $50,000 Poker Players Championship here at the 2012 World Series of Poker has wrapped up. It was an extremely exciting day of play, which was capped off by the setting of the official final table.

The day began with Viktor Blom leading the remaining 26 players. Of those 26, 16 would finish in the money while 10 would go home empty handed.

Finishing outside of the money were Antony Lellouche, Phil Hellmuth, Michael Glick, David Chiu, Lyle Berman, Robert Mizrachi, Joe Cassidy, Phil Ivey and John Monnette. With those eliminations, the field was down to 17 players and on the official money bubble.

On the bubble, Ben Yu was knocked down to just 3,000 in chips after a confrontation in Limit Hold'em against Daniel Alaei. Yu was able to fight back in a couple of pots to stay alive and get back to 21,000, but that's where the comeback ended.

On his final hand, Yu made two pair of eights and threes along with an eight-four low in Stud-8. His opponent, Roland Israelashvili, made a seven-high straight along with a six-five low to scoop the entire pot and send Yu out the door.

From there, 16 players remained and eight of them needed to be bounced before reaching the official final table. Brett Richey fought long and hard as the "comeback kid," but finished in 16th place. MIke Wattel (15th), Viktor Blom (14th), Jeff Lisandro (13th), John Hennigan (12th), Daniel Alaei (11th) and David "ODB" Baker (10th) were the next to go before the final nine joined at one table with the goal of losing one more.

David Oppenheim got short at the "unofficial" final table, before doubling up through Chris Klodnicki. Oppenheim only got short again and then eventually busted to Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi. He was the last person eliminated on the night, going out in ninth place for $142,197.

Mizrachi finished on the top of the leader board, but only barely. He edged out Andy Bloch by a mere 50,000 in chips.

Mizrachi will head the final table for Day 5. When he won this very event back in 2010 for his first WSOP gold bracelet, Mizrachi came into the final table fifth in chips. He'll be in better position this time around and seems to be playing his best poker. He's also running well, and anyone who knows poker knows that it a very lethal combination.

The final table will commence on Thursday at 2:00 PM and PokerNews will be on hand for all of the coverage. Be sure to stay tuned in then for all of the action, it's going to be a great show. Until then, enjoy the rest of our coverage from the 2012 WSOP.

No-Limit Hold'em

David Oppenheim was all in for the ante from the small blind for his last 1,000. Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi raised to 50,000 from middle position and action folded to Luke Schwartz in the big blind. He called.

The flop was {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Schwartz checked. Mizrachi went to bet, but Schwartz quickly mucked his hand and left Mizrachi heads up with the at-risk Oppenheim.

Oppenheim tabled the {J-Spades}{10-Spades} for two overs and a straight draw. Mizrachi held the {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}.

Although he had plenty of outs to stay, Oppenheim couldn't spike it after the {6-Spades} fell on the turn and the {3-Clubs} on the river. On the turn, he picked up more outs with a flush draw, but it wasn't meant to be.

Oppenheim exited in ninth place and has earned the title of "final table bubble boy." In 2010 when Oppenheim made the final table of this event and finished in third, Mizrachi won the event and was the one to eliminate Oppenheim.

Oppenheim took home $142,197 for his finish while all of the remaining players got ready to bag and tag, locking up a final table berth and at least $169,879.

Bloch: {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Baker: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The turn was the {7-Spades} and Bloch made a straight. The river was the {J-Spades} and finished off the board to eliminate Baker in 10th place. He took home $142,197 and the remaining nine players are redrawing to one table. The draw will be posted shortly.

Jeff Lisandro Eliminated in 13th Place ($120,994)

2-7 Triple Draw

In two Triple Draw hands Jeff Lisandro got chopped down and eliminated. On the first hand Roland Israelashvili raised, Andy Bloch three-bet and Lisandro called. Israelashvili made the call as well, and three-way we went to the first draw.

Israelashvili needed two cards, as did Bloch, and Lisandro took one. Lisandro bet and both his opponents called. On the second draw Israelashvili took one card, Bloch two and Lisandro needed one again. Lisandro bet, Israelashvili raised, Bloch folded and Lisandro called.

On the final draw both players stood pat, Lisandro bet and Israelashvili raised. Lisandro made the call and mucked when his opponent showed {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}.

After losing that big pot to Israelashvili Lisandro was left with just 25,000 chips. A few hands later he raised all in for just 20,000, after which Luke Schwartz three-bet. He got the other players to fold, and it was heads up.

Lisandro drew two cards on the first draw while Schwartz needed just one. On the second draw Lisandro took two again, while Schwartz took one. On the final draw both players took one card.

Schwartz showed {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} and eliminated Lisandro in 13th place.

Viktor Blom: {x-}{x-} / {K-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{2-Spades}{K-Diamonds} / {x-}

Mike Wattel completed and Viktor Blom raised. Wattel called and then called all in on fourth street. He revealed the {A-Spades}{10-Hearts} to have ace-jack high. Blom held the {K-Hearts}{9-Spades} for a pair of kings.

Blom's hand ran out best with him finish with the {3-Diamonds} on the end and trip kings. Wattel's board ran out to give him just a pair of tens with the {10-Diamonds} on seventh.

Blom won the pot and Wattel was eliminated in 15th place for $91,549. The remaining 14 players have locked up $105,235.

"This would be my happiest min-cash ever," Brett Richey said as he moved all in for 117,000 from middle position. The action was folded to Chris Klodnicki, who was in the big blind.

Klodnicki looked at one card and said, "I'm probably calling," after which he looked at the next card and called.

Richey turned over {J-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, and was in big trouble against Klodnicki's {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}. The board ran out {K-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}, and Richey got eliminated.

Richey was the first player to be knocked out in the money, and the next will also receive $91,549. The 14th place finisher will get $105,235.

Hellmuth Falls Short

Phil Hellmuth on Day 2
Phil Hellmuth on Day 2

Pot-Limit Omaha

Phil Hellmuth started the day very low on chips, and he couldn't pull off the miracle comeback. Right at the start of the day he got a little hope when he managed to find himself a double up.

Hellmuth what under the gun plus one and limped, inviting Daniel Alaei into the pot from the button. Both blinds, Lyle Berman and Daivd Oppenheim, stayed in the pot creating four-way action.

The flop came down {8-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{3-Spades}, and it got checked to Hellmuth who went all in for 18,000. Alaei made the call and both Berman and Oppenheim folded.

Hellmuth showed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and was up against Alaei's {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades}. The turn was the {J-Diamonds}, and the river the {8-Hearts} keeping Hellmuth's hopes alive.

The very next hand it was all over though, as the 12-time World Series of Poker champion lost his chips to Oppenheim. Hellmuth raised pot under the gun and Oppenheim called from the small blind.

The flop came down {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Oppenheim bet pot putting Hellmuth to the test. He called.

Phil Hellmuth{A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
David Oppenheim{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

The turn was the {5-Spades} and the river the {7-Hearts} giving Oppenehim a straight. Hellmuth was eliminated, and he'll have to wait for another chance at bracelet number 13.

Blom Leads Into Day 4; Money Bubble Looms

Viktor Blom leading the way
Viktor Blom leading the way

Arguably the most exciting day at the World Series of Poker every year is the day when the $50,000 Poker Players Championship reaches the money. Today is that day and it's expected to be a great one for fans, but a very stressful one for the players.

Returning to the felt for some more eight-game action are 26 of the best poker players in the world. Topping the bunch is WSOP rookie Viktor Blom, who was on the fortunate end of a miracle one-outer late last night that catapulted him into the lead. Blom will enter Day 4 with 1.262 million in chips.

Hot on his heels and also over the million-chip mark are David Oppenheim (1.165 million), Daniel Alaei (1.058 million) and David "ODB" Baker (1.025 million). John Hennigan rounds out the top five stacks with just under the seven-figure mark at 992,000.

With 26 players remaining and the money line set at 16, the bubble will be reached and broken at some point today. Those cashing will pocket a minimum of $91,549, while reaching the overall goal today of making the final table will garner a payday of $169,879 to the final eight players.

There are plenty big names left in the field and you can refer to the table draw below to see where they are all seated or to the chip count page to see their stacks. David Chiu (160,000), the aforementioned Cassidy (141,000), Michael Glick (71,000) and Phil Hellmuth (28,000) are the players at most risk with less than 200,000 in chips. Hellmuth finished runner-up in this event last year and the 12-time WSOP gold bracelet winner is on the chopping block with just a tiny amount of chips.

Also alive is 2010 champion Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and his brother Robert Mizrachi. Both final tabled the event in 2010 before Michael went on to win it and they're very much alive to try and do that again.

Play is scheduled to kick off at 2:00 PM PT at the Rio in Las Vegas. PokerNews will be on hand for all of the action. We wouldn't want you to miss anything, so stay tuned for the live updates coming to you shortly!
