Matusow Scoops; Mosseri & Zaichenko in Trouble

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Mike Matusow: {x-}{x-} / {5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{q-Spades} / {x-}
Andrey Zaichenko: {x-}{x-} / {4-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs} / {x-}

After Abe Mosseri brought it in with the {3-Spades}, three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Mike "The Mouth" Matusow completed with the {5-Diamonds}. Andrey Zaichenko, who was showing the {4-Diamonds}, then raised and drove Mosseri from the hand. Matusow made the call and then bet when Zaichenko checked fourth.

The Russian made the call and then check-called bets on both fifth and sixth. Both players checked on seventh and Matusow said, "Two pair." He then flipped the {2-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for fives and deuces. Zaichenko peered at his cards one last time, gathered them up and then tossed them to the dealer.

Negreanu vs. Hastings

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Daniel Negreanu: {x-}{x-} / {5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{q-Spades} / {x-}
Brian Hastings: {x-}{x-} / {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} / {x-}

We happened upon the action on fifth street when both Brian Hastings and Daniel Negreanu checked. The former then put out a bet on sixth, Negreanu called and the action repeated itself on seventh.

Hastings tabled the {5-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for a straight and eight-seven low, while Negreanu held the {a-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for a seven-five low. Even though they chopped that pot, both men are down from the last time we checked in on them.

Richey Eliminates Mercier

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Jason Mercier: {x-}{x-} / {k-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} / {x-}
Brett Richey: {x-}{x-} / {5-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{a-Clubs} / {x-}

Jason Mercier has been playing two tournament all day. Of course he has been playing ours, but he has also been going deep in Event #12: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em. Since making the final three tables in the latter event, Mercier's attention for the Stud 8 diminished a bet.

After being moved to Table 427, Mercier got involved in a hand against Brett Richey just before the level went up. We picked up the action on fourth street when Mercier check-called a bet before leading out for his remaining chips on fifth. Richey called, both players turned up their cards and sixth and seventh were run out.

Mercier: {A-Spades}{q-Hearts} / {9-Spades}
Richey: {a-Hearts}{2-Spades} / {10-Spades}

Mercier had a pair of queens, but it was no good against Richey's aces and eight-seven low. With that, Mercier was eliminated and literally bolted back to his table in Event #12: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em.

Kelly & Shchemelev Chop Mercier's Chips

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante

Jason Mercier: {x-}{x-} / {4-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{q-Spades}{3-Clubs} / {x-}
Matthew Kelly: {x-}{x-} / {5-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} / {X-}
Vladimir Shchemelev: {x-}{x-} / {k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{9-Spades} / {x-}

We picked up the action on sixth street when Vladimir Shchemelev fired out a bet and both Jason Mercier and Matt Kelly called. Shchemelev slowed down with a checked on seventh, Mercier followed suit and Kelly took the opportunity to bet. Shchemelev called and Mercier got out of the way.

Shchemelev: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}
Kelly: {8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Shchemelev's kings and nines were good for the high while Kelly's eight-six took the low. Mercier was the big loser in the hand and dropped to just 5,700 after the hand.
