Event #52: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em

Day 1 Started

Welcome to Event #52: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em

The 2017 World Series of Poker marches forward, and today another new event begins — Event #52: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em.

Last year’s champion in this event was David Peters from the United States. After getting so close so many times, Peters finally picked up his first WSOP gold bracelet and earned $412,557 for outlasting a field of 1,860 entrants. Peters has 44 WSOP cashes overall and $1,811,802 in WSOP earnings. He also already has three cashes this summer.

This is a three-day event. Day 1 will begin at 11 a.m. with play scheduled to last 10 levels. The $1,500 buy-in will get players 7,500 chips to try to run up. There will be a 20-minute break every two levels and a 90-minute dinner break after Level 6. Late registration is expected to close after six levels, around 7.30 p.m.

Greenstein Hunts Ninth Cash

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante
Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein

Three-time WSOP bracelet winner Barry Greenstein is among those who've taken their seat early on Day 1. The "Robin Hood of Poker" has been on a tear this series and already racked up eight (!) cashes in the previous weeks. His latest money finish was a deep run in Event #44: $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, where he finished 14th for $9,513.

Greenstein wasted no time in putting his stack to work today and three-bet two hands twice in a row. In the first hand, he raised a player from 150 to 450 and took it down with a continuation bet on a {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop.

In the hand directly after, a player opened from early position to 200, Greenstein three-bet to 600 in late position and the same player from the previous hand cold-called. The initial raiser four-bet to 2,050 and got both Greenstein and the third player out of the way. Greenstein sits around the starting stack in his hunt for his ninth cash of the series.

Kelly Minkin Wins One

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Kelly Minkin opened to 125 from early position and was called by three players, one in middle position and both the blinds.

The dealer spread a flop of {2-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. It was checked to Minkin who bet 425. The player in middle position folded. The small blind stuck around with a call and the big blind folded.

The turn came the {9-Spades}. The player in the small blind this time led for 600. Minkin called. Both players then checked the {A-Diamonds} river.

Minkin's opponent revealed {q-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and she tabled {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds} to rake in the pot.
