The Champ is Downed

Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

The €10,450 Mixed Max - No-Limit Hold'em event will have a new champion after Jennifer Tilly eliminated Michael Mizrachi.

Mizrachi opened and then four-bet to 21,000 after Tilly three-bet. Tilly called and then set Mizrachi all in for his remaining 80,000 after he c-bet for 20,000 on a {5-}{4-}{2-} rainbow flop. Call.

Mizrachi needed help as his {a-}{k-} was behind to Tilly's {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. Tilly made trips as the turn came {4-} and she needed it as the river fell a {k-}.

Hairabedian Eliminates Juanda In Massive Confrontation

With the flop reading {2-Spades}{9-Spades}{A-Clubs}, Roger Hairabedian checked to John Juanda who fired out 5,500.

Everything seemed standard up until now, but then things started to go a little nuts.

"Everyone says you are crazy," proclaimed Hairabedian. "But I am crazy!"

Hairabedian then moved all in, which was a bet for all of Juanda's stack. This bet totaled roughly 90,000 in chips. Needless to say, Juanda seemed shocked by this bet.

"Wow," Juanda lamented. "Now we're serious."

"Bon Appétit!" replied Hairabedian.

After about a minute, Hairabedian called the clock on Juanda. "I don't want your head to explode," he said.

The floor, however, witnessed the action and denied the request for time, asserting that Juanda has the right to a "reasonable amount of time to make a decision."

Hairabedian's badgering kept on.

"It's a gift!" he said.

"Alright, I call," replied Juanda, who also stated that he put Hairabedian on a flush draw.

"No good!" said Hairabedian. "You are no good!" He showed {A-Spades}{9-Hearts} for top two pair.

Juanda tabled {A-Hearts}{j-Spades} and stood up from the table.

The {9-Diamonds} rolled off on the turn and gave Hairabedian a full house of nines full of aces. The {Q-Clubs} finished the board and Juanda's tournament officially came to a close. Hairabedian, on the other hand, is now sporting a stack of roughly 200,000.

Hairabedian has had a remarkable WSOPE so far, clinching a 39th place cash in Event #2: €1,100 No-Limit Hold'em and winning the bracelet in Event #3: €5,300 Pot-Limit Omaha .

Cantu Climbs Some More

Brandon Cantu is continuing to accrue chips, and Joe McGowan had to be sacrificed for him to do so.

Cantu opened from the button and shoved when McGowan three-bet to 13,800 from the small blind. McGowan thought long and hard before calling all in for around 55,000.

Cantu: {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
McGowan: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}.

The board ran {j-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts}.

Cantu fell behind, found a miracle turn and then had to sweat the flush draw on the river.

Only two more players will leave empty handed from this tournament.

Redraw After Cantu Busts Kornuth

Three tables of six make up this tournament after Chance Kornuth busted to Brandon Cantu.

Kornuth called a Cantu raise from the button whilst sat in the small blind and then check-called three streets on a {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} board. He had 70,000 remaining by the river and tank-called it off after Cantu set him in.

Cantu opened {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and took the pot as Kornuth mucked.

Giant Confrontation Before Break; Cantu Crushing

On the first hand after redrawing to three tables, Phil Hellmuth opened to 5,000 from under the gun and was called by JC Alvarado from the cutoff. Brandon Cantu made it 20,000 to go from the big blind and Hellmuth folded.

Alvarado got the rest of his stack in and Cantu called, putting Alvarado at risk.

Alvarado: {A-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Cantu: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The two players were racing for Alvarado's stack of roughly 160,000. The board fell {J-Spades}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{A-Hearts} and Cantu's set of tens put the nail in the coffin for Alvarado's tournament life. Cantu now has a massive chip lead over the field with roughly 750,000 in chips.

"I do NOT want to draw Brandon in the first round!" remarked Hellmuth after the hand, referring to the heads up matches that will come when the field reaches 16 players.

When the players return from break play will be hand for hand.
