Smith vs. Martinez

Dan Smith opened for 3,600 under the gun and received a call from Barbara Martinez in the cutoff. Both players then checked the {8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop, and Smith tossed out a single grey T5,000 chip on the {Q-Diamonds} turn.

Martinez made the call and then watched Smith check the {4-Spades} river. Martinez took her time before coming out with a big bet of 20,000, but Smith wasn't interested and snap-folded his hand.

Practice For October Nine

World Series of Poker Main Event October Niner Russell Thomas has recently been moved immediately to the left of the other October Niner left in the field, Jesse Sylvia. These two will be squaring off for the biggest prize in poker a little more than a mere month away from now, so being seated at the same table could be good practice and a chance to study one another.

Trip Tens for Hellmuth

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Kristijonas Andrulis fired 12,000 into Phil Hellmuth on the {Q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Hearts} board. Hellmuth called.

The river was the {10-Spades} to pair the board. Andrulis fired 28,000, and Hellmuth quickly called.

Andrulis showed the {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} for two pair, queens and tens. Hellmuth had better with the {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for trip tens, and he won the pot.

ElkY Rivers Negreanu

The flop was {10-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier checked. Daniel Negreanu, seated to his immediate left, bet 11,600. Grospellier called.

Fifth street was the {J-Hearts} and ElkY checked once again. Negreanu checked back and Grospellier showed {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} for trips jacks. Negreanu shrugged and shook his head, showing {10-Spades}{8-Spades} for a turned two pair that were negated by the river.

"Well, I had him for one street!" said Negreanu with a laugh.

Tedeschi's Long Tank

We happened upon the table with a {8-Spades}{A-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts} board and 20,000 in the pot. It appeared Paul Tedeschi had taken a long time to check from the big blind, and Andy Frankenberger did the same. When the {J-Clubs} appeared on the river, Tedeschi led out for 6,700 only to have Frankenberger raise to 16,100, leaving himself just 15,000 behind.

Tedeschi tanked for a very long time until someone at the table called the clock. The floor came over and gave Tedeschi an extra few minutes before starting a countdown. After about 50 seconds, Tedeschi silently tossed his cards to the muck.

Frankenberger, who up to that point had sat motionless, then vented his frustration at how long the hand took: "That's the most ridiculously long tank I've seen. What was that? Like 15 minutes?"

Hellmuth vs Andrulis, Round 32

Kristijonas Andrulis
Kristijonas Andrulis

"I busted every single one of them, and it's been going on for twenty years," Phill Hellmuth just said to his table mates. He was talking about Kristijonas Andrulis whom he had been battling with for hours now.

"When I have aces I'm just gonna make a huge raise," Hellmuth uttered.

"You still have time Phill," Andrulis said. "I'm on a mission, you have chips and you wanna play!" he added.

"I'm not going for a min cash," Andrulis continued. "Maybe Phill is though. Are you Phill?"

Andrulis kept needling Hellmuth who was visibly steaming over the battle he couldn't get a grip on so far.

"It's the same old story," Hellmuth sighed.

"Yeah, same old, same old," Andrulis said as he wasn't going to go quiet anytime soon.

"The sick thing was, I had ace-king!" Hellmuth said about a hand they apparently played just minutes earlier.

"The sick thing was," Andrulis said as he raised his voice, "I had the best hand on the flop, the best hand on the turn and the best hand on the river." Right when he said that Hellmuth raised again, and Andrulis defended his big blind.

The flop came down {3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, and both players checked. On the turn the {3-Spades} hit and Andrulis fired out 9,000. Hellmuth picked up his cards and snapped them back and forth.

"Oh just fold it," Andrulis smiled right before Hellmuth threw his hand into the muck.

"That was Round 21," Andrulis said as he once again raked in a pot.

"No, it's more like Round 32," another player at the table added.

"Yeah, at least he's winning all the talking rounds in between," Andrulis said as he took it to the next level.

"It's just a little white magic," the other player added as everyone started laughing. This battle is far from over, but for now both players are near the top of the leader board.
