Tran Decimated in Level 7

Remember earlier when we told you that Elio Fox had amassed a big stack? Well, we're not 100% sure, but our best guess is he got them from Henry Tran, who has a lot less than he started the day with.

That stack got even smaller when Jean-Paul Pasqualini doubled through Tran holding {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} on a {5-Hearts}{7-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs} board (we're not sure of Tran's cards as the dealer had already pulled them into the muck).

Big Double Up For Cheong Through Karr

McLean Karr and Joseph Cheong just clashed in a big pot which gave the latter some serious ammunition for a very deep run. We arrived on the scene when Cheong, who was out of position, had 7,400 invested into the pot. Karr had 2,900 in front of him, and he eventually made the call.

The flop brought out {2-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Cheong fired out 5,675. Karr played with some chips, and put together a raise to 16,675. Cheong made the call.

On the turn the {4-Spades} showed up and Cheong quickly checked. Karr grabbed his eight gray 5,000 chips and put Cheong all in. He called immediately and turned over {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}.

"Oh, you flopped the nut flush," Karr sighed as he flipped up his {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}. The river was the {3-Hearts} and Cheong doubled up. Karr was left behind with little chips and will have to start a serious comeback.

Both Ivey & Puchkov Put Their Tournament Lives on the Line

We're not sure of the preflop action, but we do know that both Konstantin Puchkov and Phil Ivey were at risk against Denis Biscaldi. Puchkov was all in for 9,300, while Ivey had a more considerable stack of 59,500 on the line.

Showdown
Puchkov: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Biscaldi: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Ivey: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}

Biscaldi wasn't happy about his position, but neither he nor Ivey seemed upset that the {A-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop gave Puchkov the lead as they were more concerned with the side pot. The {3-Hearts} turn and {Q-Clubs} saw that side pot go to Ivey, while Puckov tripled off the main pot.

Tran Picks One Up from Defending Champ

Elio Fox raised to 1,300 from the cutoff seat, and Henry Tran called from the big blind. On the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop, Tran checked, and Fox fired 1,500. Tran called.

The turn was the {9-Spades}, and Tran checked. Fox checked behind to see the {3-Clubs} land on the river. Tran tossed 8,000 forward, and Fox folded.

Long Tank-Fold For Esfandiari

The flop read {K-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Matan Krakow checked. Antonio Esfandiari bet 4,200 only to be raised to 11,200 by Krakow. Esfandiari called.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and paired the board. Krakow moved 15,000 into the center and Esfandiari called once again.

The {J-Clubs} rivered and Krakow moved all in for 39,650 total. Esfandiari tanked for about two minutes before finally talking to Krakow.

"Do you want me to call you?" asked Esfandiari.

Krakow sat motionless and garnered no reply.

Another minute passed.

"Kid! Give me something!" said Esfandiari.

Krakow gave nothing as he stared at one spot on the felt and never lifted his gaze.

Eventually, another player at the table called time and Esfandiari had one more minute to act on his hand. The floor came over and counted down until the timer finally hit zero and Esfandiari was forced to let go of his cards.

Esfandiari pulled them out of the muck and showed {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}.

"Can you beat that?" Esfandiari asked Krakow.

Krakow did not respond and simply mucked his hand and dragged in the pot.

Being Honest Gets Haxton Eliminated

Issac Haxton on Day 1a
Issac Haxton on Day 1a

Isaac Haxton was just eliminated in a very strange scenario. He had raised under the gun after which the action folded to Averso Olivier who moved all in from the small blind. The total shove was for 11,025 and Haxton ended up making the call.

Showdown:
Isaac Haxton: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Averso Olivier: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, and Olivier doubled up. The dealer counted out the chips out of Haxton's stack, and he was left behind with just 400 chips. During all of this the runner-up of the $40,000 No-Limit Holdem anniversary event back in 2009 was standing up, and he expected to be eliminated.

A member of the staff stood by the table, as players were trying to figure out how many chips Olivier should have.

"We're not sure if I'm busted or not," Haxton said to the staff member who observed as the dealer counted out the chips again. Philippe Boucher calculated that Olivier should have 23,200 chips, and he was short of that number. Haxton seemed very content with the fact that everything was resolved in honest fashion and left the tournament room.

"I'm not gonna lie over 400 chips," Haxton added as Olivier stacked the additional chips he received.

Tran Doubles

From the cutoff seat, Roberto Romanello raised to 1,400. Henry Tran moved all in for 4,300 from the button, then Remy Biechel reraised to 8,600 from the small blind. Everyone folded, leaving it was Tran versus Biechel.

Tran: {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Niechel: {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The flop, turn and river ran out {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{K-Spades}{A-Diamonds} to give Tran a full house. He doubled back to over 10,000 while Biechel dropped to under 50,000.

Break Time

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

One level is in the books here on Day 2, which means it's time for the first 20-minute break of the day. During that time the WSOP staff will race off the green T25 chips.
