Today there were 279 entries, surpassing the 241 entries recorded last year, to create a nice prizepool of €418,500. A total of 42 players will be in the money tomorrow for a min-cash worth €2,3922 but all have their eyes on the €97,365 first prize and the prestigious gold bracelet that comes with.
Leading the final 56 is Israelian Shahaf Nacson with 436,000, the only player above the 400,000 chips mark. According to Hendon Mob, his total live earnings in live tournaments worth $4,973 and he'll be hoping to add a first cash in a bracelet event tomorrow as well as his biggest live cash.
Shaun Deeb, the new chipleader of the WSOP Player of the year race and who finished second in that event last year against Norbert Szecsi managed to build a stack of 234,000 for Day 2. Deeb added even more chips during the last three hands of the day by forcing a fold to Jeff Madsen, who still bagged a comfortable 238,500, and eliminating Marek Uharcek.
Other big stacks include Ankit Ajuha from India, second in chips with 376,500, Harout Ghazarian (365,000), Paul Hendee (340,000), Quan Zhou (327,000), and multiple bracelet winners Asi Moshe (291,500) and Jeffrey Lisandro (287,000).
Several big names took their chance today and managed to find a bag tonight. They include Erik Cajelais (214,000), 2017 Player of the Year Chris Ferguson (179,000), Ismael Bojang (169,500), Maksim Pisarenko (174,000), who busted Michael Ogrady in a three-way pot on a seven-high flop not long before the end of the day, holding aces versus queens while Mihai Niste folded kings.
Daniel Negreanu, who was one of the very last players to register at the end of level 12, made his way to Day 2 by bagging 85,000 chips. However, 15-times bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, who also late registered, busted a few minutes before the play halted.
Well-known players to felt on Day 1 also included Robert Campbell, Vasile Strugari, Phillip Hui, Philipp Gruissem, Dash Dudley, David "ODB" Baker, Benny Glaser, Allen Kessler and Pierre Neuville, who doubled a few times during the last levels of the night but lost his remaining chips in the last 30 minutes against the aces of Mustafa Biz.
The action continues tomorrow at 2 p.m and the plan is to play down to a final table. The action will restart at blinds 1,500/ 3,000 ante 3,000 and will increase every 40 minutes, with a 20-minute break every three levels.
