Tariq Ullah vs Bartosz Szafraniec

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The player in the small blind checked and Tariq Ullah bet 12,000 from the big blind on a flop of {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Bartosz Szafraniec was seated in the seat to his left and called, with the small blind getting out of the way.

The turn was the {a-Hearts} and Ullah bet 19,000 and Szafraniec called.

The river was the {j-Hearts} and both players checked. Ullah showed {7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for two pair, giving his stack a vital boost as the evening winds towards a close.

Fabien Balotelli Takes from Sarca; Eliminates a Player

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Fabien Balotelli opened from early position to 6,000. Patrick Sarca called on the button and the player in the big blind also called.

The flop came {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Sarca checked, and the big blind bet 6,100. Both players called.

The turn was the {5-Clubs}. Sarca checked again and this time the third player moved all in for 15,000. Both Balotelli and Sarca called.

The river was the {5-Hearts}. Sarca checked to his opponent who bet 20,400, and Sarca quickly called.

The all-in player showed {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} for top pair, but Balotelli had him beat with {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for a flush. Sarca meanwhile was staring at {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts} with a blank expression on his face. It transpires he misread his hand and mistakenly thought he held the {4-Clubs}.

Chip Counts from the Field

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Here are some of the bigger stacks from the field including Patrick Serka who has chipped up considerably from his already large chip stack earlier.

In the last hand before the break Ivan Curic was all-in and ahead holding {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} against his opponent's {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. With action finished on another table, there was a small crowd gathered to watch the run out. It transpired that Tariq Ullah had folded {4-}{4-} pre-flop, and the crowd erupted as not only did Curic's queens hold up, but the board ran out {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} which would have given Ullah a full house.

"But if you called, the four would not have come," said Curic, "Then Queens would have come!"

Mighty Oaks from Little Acorns Grow

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Chaucer may very well have been talking about poker live reporting when he wrote words akin to the phrase above. When you sit and watch three players check a pot down all the way, and someone wins it with second pair. Sometimes however, it goes the other way.

A player from middle position opened to 2,600 at 600/1,200 and both the blinds called. The flop came {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} and all three checked.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and again all three checked.

The river was the {a-Spades} and the player first to act, whose name reads 'Goga' moved all in for 21,600 into the 7,800 pot. The second player folded but the third player called.

'Goga' turned over {a-Hearts}{6-Spades} for quads and his opponent threw his cards down towards the muck. Through the best efforts of the players they attempted to find his mucked cards, as they had to be shown. Unfortunately, the cards they thought were his turned out to be {10-}{8-}

"Yes," said the player who had lost the pot, counting out the double up, "I called an all in with ten-high(!)"

Ivan Curic Doubles Through Tariq Ullah

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Tariq Ullah

Ivan Curic opened to 2,600 from the cutoff. It folded to Tariq Ullah in the small blind who has been pretty active throughout the day, having recently doubled up Bartosz Szafraniec.

Ullah three-bet to 5,800. The aforementioned Szafraniec folded in the big blind and action was back on Curic. He then four-bet all in to 31,300. Ullah called.

Ullah: {a-Spades}{4-Spades}
Curic: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Curic, who is 7th on the Croatian all-time money list, was way ahead, and was even further ahead after the flop came {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Ullah still had outs, but they would have to be the running variety, and they failed to materialise as the board completed {10-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}.
