Paul O'Brien is the latest player to be eliminated.
He pushed his short-stack with from early position. It looked like he would take down the blinds and antes until Annette Obrestad called from the small blind with .
O'Brien caught a piece of the flop, but it wouldn't be enough with the turn and river both bricking out.
Sorry ladies (and probably even a few men); Gus Hansen has been eliminated from the main event.
Hansen was knocked down to 50,000 in chips after getting it all in with pocket nines against an opponent's on an board. Gus' opponent turned a jack to steal the pot, leaving him short stacked.
A few hands later, he got it all in holding from the small blind and Tyron Krost woke up to pocket nines in the big.
The ensuing board ran out and Krost's nines held up to send the Team Full Tilter home in 23rd place.
Full Tilter Andrew Feldman has just been eliminated from the tournament in 24th place by Pierre Aoukar in dramatic fashion.
Aoukar opened with a raise to 35,000 from under-the-gun and when the action folded around to Feldman, he moved all in for 106,000. (Feldman actually raised to 105,000, not realizing he had an extra gray (T1,000) left in front of him). Aoukar looked him up and the extra 'G' was worked into the pot, setting up the following showdown:
Feldman:
Aoukar:
The flop came down strengthening Feldman's lead in the hand. The turn brought the improving his odds of winning even further with one card to come, but the river delivered the fatal blow, dropping the on the board, which gave Aoukar a Broadway Straight.
Aoukar stacked up 933,000 in chips after the hand.
With the board showing and about 65,000 already in the pot, Jessica Dawley bet 45,000 and Steve Friedlander moved all in over the top for 126,000. Dawley made the call holding and Friedlander showed .
When the cameras were called over, Dawley walked away from the table with her hands over her ears.
"Why are you walking away? You're ahead!" said one player at the table.
"The river is a ten!" announced Tournament Director Christian Vaughn over the loudspeaker, and Dawley heard it.
She walked back to the table, disheartened, and sat back down with her remaining 440,000 in chips.
Cort Kibler-Melby opened to 24,000 from early position with Paul O'Brien making the call from the the cutoff. They went heads up to the .
Kibler-Melby fired out 30,000 with O'Brien flatting again. The turn was the .
This time Kibler-Melby seemingly put the brakes on by checking. O'Brien bet 75,000. Kibler-Melby put his foot to the floor again, moving all in. O'Brien thought a little while before saying, "I have to fold this, what do I beat?", tossing his two pair into the muck in the process.
"I'll show you a scare card," came the response from Kibler-Melby, as he held up an .
Kibler-Melby is back to 430,000. O'Brien is down around 150,000.
