Hansen Runs Huge Bluff

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Bjarke Hansen and Lauri Varonen have just had a test of wills over on their table that left anyone who was watching flabbergasted.

On a {7-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{3-Spades} flop, Hansen lead out with a bet and Varonen raised to 25,700. Hansen then took back his original bet and made it 64,700 to play. But that was not the end of the betting because Varonen raised to 102,200 in total. Again, that is not the end because Hansen took sip from his bottle of water and announced he was all in! Varonen almost immediately folded only to be shown {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}!

The look on everyone's face, including Melanie Weisner's was an absolute picture. Never have a group of people collectively said "WTF" without actually saying a word.

Fernandez All But Stacks Petrov

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Mikhail Petrov has been left with just 18,000 chips and will need to pull off some Mickey Petersen-esque short-stack skills if he is to survive much longer at the PokerStars EPT Copenhagen Main Event.

He entered a preflop raising war, him in the small blind, Alejandro Sanchez Fernandez on the button. The war resulted Fernandez being all in and at risk of elimination.

Fernandez: {Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Petrov: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}

Fernandez was a 35/65 underdog and needed to catch some cards. He picked up a flush draw on the {6-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop, missed on the {K-Diamonds} but completed his flush on the arrival of the {10-Hearts} on the river. Petrov simply handed over 188,500 of his stack like it was nothing at all.

Van Alphen Four-Bet Shove Goes Uncalled

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

From the cutoff Niels van Alphen opened to 8,000 and Melanie Weisner called on the button. Bjarke Hansen called from the small blind but Lauri Varonen spoiled the party and pumped up the cost of playing to 32,500. After pausing for a few moments van Alphen announced he was all in and all three of his opponents quickly folded.

Tureniec Straghtened Out

Michael Tureniec spent most of this level hoovering (other brands of vacuum cleaners available) up the chips of those around him as he tried to wrestle a firm grip of the tournament. Martin El-Kher put a stop to that after he was fortunate to back into a straight.

El-Kher opened to 8,000 from the cut-off and emptied the clip with bets of 10,000, 22,000, and 42,000 on each street. Tureniec was the only caller on the button and all the way through the {6-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{a-Spades}{10-Diamonds} board.

El-Kher opened {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} for a back door straight and the pot.

Magnus Hansen Loves EPT Copenhagen

Magnus Hansen just loves EPT Copenhagen. With a 3rd place finish in 2008 and a 9th place finish in 2010 the Dane must look forward to this event each year. He has once again, not only made the money, but looks good value to have another deep run. Here he is tangling with Melanie Weisner.

Steve O'Dwyer raised to 8,600 in early position, Weisner called in the cut-off, Bjarke Hansen called on the button and Lauri Varonen called in the small blind before Magnus Hansen raised to 31,800 from the big blind. O'Dwyer mucked instantly but Weisner put in a 58,800 four-bet. Bjarke Hansen and Varonen moved out of the way before Magnus Hansen moved all-in for over 300,000 and Weisner snap-mucked.

Varonen Doubles Up Haenel

Lauri Varonen has not had the very best of levels in the past few. He was our chip leader for most of the early part of the day - after crippling Kevin Iacofano - but he has doubled up a series of short stacks and now has 300,000.

We were just watching his table as he doubled up another short stack - this time Jens Haenel. It was a flip with Haenel's {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts} finding a {J-Diamonds} turn to pip Varonen's {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades} to the post.

Pierre Neuville "Too Old For Seven-Deuce"

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Pierre Neuville is living proof it is never too late to take up the game, at 69-years young he is almost always the most senior player in an EPT field, as has been the case here in Copenhagen. Although age shouldn't stop you playing poker it apparently prevents you from playing seven-deuce.

Juha Lauttamus opened to 8,400 from the button and it was up to Neuville to act. He reached for chips and three-bet from the small blind to 21,600. Malki Yaron Zeev folded his big blind and Lauttamus followed suit.

"Show the bluff," requested Zeev. "Seven-deuce?"

"I'm too old for playing seven-deuce," replied Neuville, "I could probably be your grandfather!"

Cheeky Rasmussen

Jacob Rasmussen won a healthy sized pot off Ghattas Kortas without showdown and then flashed the {2-Clubs}.

The pot opened with a Michael Tureniec under-the-gun raise to 8,200 before Rasmussen three-bet to 22,000 from the next seat. Kortas was on the button and put in a four-bet to 46,300. Tureniec folded but Rasmussen shakily put in a five-bet to 85,000.

Kortas called to a {7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} flop where he faced a small 50,000 bet from his opponent. He took his time and folded only to be shown that {2-Clubs} by Rasmussen.

Hansen Eliminates The Dangerous Cichocki

Cichocki is out
Cichocki is out

Earlier on we brought you the story of how Bjarke Hansen doubled up through Lauri Varonen. Well he has now breached the 300,000 barrier after eliminating Grzegorz Cichocki.

Niels van Alphen started the ball rolling with a raise to 8,000 in middle position. Melanie Weisner cold-called - one seat to his left - before Grzegorz Cichocki moved all-in for 85,000 in the next pew. Next to act was Hansen and he made the call and once the other pair moved out of the way we had a showdown.

Hansen{Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}
Cichocki{10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}

The board ran out with an unnecessary set for Hansen and he now has 360,000 chips.

Mickey Petersen: Short-Stack Ninja

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Short Stack Ninja
Short Stack Ninja

Mickey Petersen certainly knows how to play a short stack, shove, shove and shove some more for good measure!

Down to his last 7,300, the Team PokerStars Online moved all in from middle position and the action folded around to Helge Stjernvang in the small blind. He called but then folded when Anthony Hnatow came over the top and made it what looked like 17,200.

Hnatow: {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}
Petersen: {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Petersen spiked a nine on the {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop and when the turn and river were the {3-Diamonds} and {6-Diamonds} respectively the young Dane more than doubled up.

A couple of hands later and Petersen open-shoved for 24,300 from under the gun and Juha Helppi looked like he was going to call him in the big blind but he just couldn't pull the trigger and Petersen picked up the blinds and antes again.

The very next hand the action folded to Helppi in the small blind and he decided not to take on Petersen and he mucked his hand.

"Would you have called a shove?" asked Helppi

"I've not even looked yet.....(looks at cards)....No!" came the answer.

Petersen up to around 28,000
