Phillips Takes One On the River

We arrived at Carter Phillips table and found him four-betting the player on his left, Martin Klaeser, to 3,550. His opponent called and the flop came down {Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}.

Both checked and the {5-Spades} hit the turn. Both opted to check again and the {2-Hearts} followed on the river. Phillips checked for a third time and Klaeser bet 2,175. After a few moments, Phillips raised it to 10,000 and forced a fold from Klaeser. With his two cards face down, he asked Jennifer "Jennicide" Leigh to pick which one he should show. Leigh picked the one on the right and Phillips revealed the {9-Diamonds}.

He is up to about 37,300.

Winston Gone

Roy Winston
Roy Winston

Just as we mention how much Roy Winston has NOT been involved today, we walk by to see him exiting to the rail. Winston made a great call on a ten-high flop with {10-}{9-}. His opponent was making a move with just {K-}{Q-} for king high. The turn blanked, but the river spiked a {Q-} and Winston hit the rail.

"Only to me, only to me," he muttered as he walked off.

Hakim and Winston Not Doing Much

Hakim has done more eating and drinking than playing poker today
Hakim has done more eating and drinking than playing poker today

We haven't heard much from both Roy Winston and Jeff Hakim here in the Main Event on Day 1b. Both haven't been involved much and although that means we don't have any booming news to report on them, that also means we don't have anything tragic to report as well. Winston is sitting on an even 19,000 while Hakim is on 34,050. If anything comes up, you'll surely hear about it.

More Action from Phillips

After a player under the gun raised to 500, Carter Phillips reraised to 1,275 from middle position. Once again, Phillips was involved in a pot as he so often is. The player on the button flatted and the original raiser folded.

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Phillips' continuation bet of 1,800 was good enough to take down to pot.

Kongsgaard Misses Straight, Rivers Pair

On the turn, the board read {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} between one player and Soren Kongsgaard. The player fired 1,600 and Kongsgaard made the call.

The river brought the {9-Diamonds} and both players quickly checked. Kongsgaard tabled the {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} having chased a straight draw and hit a pair on the river. His opponent mucked his hand and Kongsgaard moved to 46,000 in chips.

Aggressive Antonio

Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

After a player in middle position raised to 425, the cutoff seat called. Antonio Esfandiari reraised from the button to 2,150. The original raiser folded and the cutoff seat called.

The flop came down {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades} and all it took was a bet of 6,600 from Esfandiari after his opponent checked for him to win the pot.
