Eli, the Thinker

Eli Elezra
Eli Elezra
Players are weighing every decision with great care here on the cash bubble, as illustrated by this hand that took place prior to the break.

On a board of {Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}, Emmanuel Sebag checked, Eli Elezra checked, and then John Juanda bet 52,000. Both Sebag and Elezra called.

The river was the {6-Diamonds}. Sebag checked, Elezra bet 40,000, and then Juanda pushed all in for 130,000.

Sebag folded quickly, but Elezra had to think about it. A long time passed -- perhaps as much as ten minutes -- and Negreanu apologetically called the clock. Elezra folded.

Juanda is up to 460,000, and Elezra at 290,000.

Table Talk: Hellmuth & Negreanu

"You're playing well" said Phil Hellmuth to his tablemate Johnny Chan.

Sitting at an adjacent table, Daniel Negreanu piped in with a laugh. "Now you KNOW you're playing well. Phil Hellmuth said you were!"

"This is a 10 bracelet and above conversation, son. You don't qualify yet" admonished Hellmuth.

"Good thing you said 'yet.' See me in 10 years. Even 6 years!" replied Negreanu

Birinder Nijran Triples Up

Phil Galfond opened for a raise, Birinder Nijran reraised to 29,000, David Benyamine called on the button and Galfond called. The flop was {Q-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {5-Clubs}. Galfond checked, Nijran moved all in and both Benyamine and Galfond called. The turn was the {10-Hearts}. Galfond bet 40,000 and Benyamine called. The river was the {10-Clubs} and both players checked.

Nijran turned up {A-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} for a full house, Galfond showed {K-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {9-Spades} {8-Clubs} for a straight and Benyamine mucked. Nijran won the main pot and tripled up while Galfond took the side pot.

"Like a Lightning Bolt"

"He's Phil Hellmuth!"
"He's Phil Hellmuth!"
Few hands are going beyond the flop, and those that do make the river are generally producing smallish pots.

Meanwhile, Phil Hellmuth continues to offer critique of the play of Brian Rast and/or reminders of Hellmuth's own greatness. A recent example of such unsolicited commentary culminated thusly:

"I kind of like you, kid. But you will understand why I'm Phil Hellmuth by the end of the night. It will be like a lightning bolt -- He's Phil Hellmuth!"

Negreanu Falls Again

On a flop of {7-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {3-Clubs} Eli Elezra checked, Daniel Negreanu checked, John Juanda bet 20,000 and both Elezra and Negreanu called. The turn was the {4-Clubs}. Elezra led out for a pot-sized bet of 87,500, Negreanu called and Juanda folded. The river was the {2-Spades}. Elezra moved all in and Negreanu folded, saving his last 120,000 in chips. After the hand Elezra topped 400,000.

Emmanuel Sebag Doubles Through Daniel Negreanu

This one will turn your stomach...

Emmanuel Sebag raised to 20,000 from late position, Daniel Negreanu reraised to 60,000 on the button and Sebag called. The flop was {10-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {6-Diamonds}. Sebag checked, Negreanu bet 127,500, Sebag moved all in and Negreanu called.

Sebag {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} {9-Spades} {7-Clubs}

Negreanu {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {5-Clubs}

It was aces vs. kings and nut flush draw vs. second-nut flush draw for these two. The turn was the {5-Diamonds}, but the river was the {8-Spades}. Sebag hit a miracle runner-runner straight draw and took down the monster pot. After the hand he was up to 530,000 while Negreanu fell to 250,000.
