Straight Out of the Amazon Room for Sands

And just like that, Sands has hit the rail.

Most of the damage was done when Phil Hellmuth raised under the gun and Sands reraised preflop. Hellmuth check-called Sands' bets on the X {7-?} {6-?} flop and {10-?} turn, and then bet out on the {9-?} river. Sands called, but his his pocket queens were no good against Hellmuth's {A-?} {8-?} for the rivered straight. Ouch.

A couple hands later and Hellmuth finished him off. Down to just 2,400, Sands got it in under the gun with {Q-Diamonds} {7-Spades} and it folded around to Hellmuth in the small blind who raised with {K-Hearts} {3-Clubs}. The big blind folded. On their backs:

Board: {10-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {A-Hearts}

Hellmuth made himself another straight for good measure, and Sands slips through our fingers while Hellmuth is on around 55,000.

Hellmuth is Rising

There was a lot of action preflop before Phil Hellmuth got the last of his chips in on a {A-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} flop. He had a willing opponent in Diego Cordovez, who had flopped top two pair with {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}. Hellmuth was behind with {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} but had outs as they went to the {6-Clubs} turn and {9-Diamonds} river!!

Hellmuth got there with the flush and doubled to 30,000. Cordovez knocked back a little to 40,000.

David Sands has made further recoveries and is up to 22,000 after getting involved in a blind on blind confrontation that went his way.

The two blinds saw a {7-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {2-Clubs} flop and the small blind bet out; Sands in the big blind raised and the small blind called.

The turn was the {K-Hearts} and now the small blind checked. Sands bet, and the pot was his.

Cry Me a River

A preflop raising war just broke out between Daniel Negreanu and an UTG player where all the chips ended up in the middle. Negreanu opened {10-Hearts} {10-Clubs} to the UTG's {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}.

The board ran {8-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {7-Spades} {Q-Spades}. The river caught the UTG player to save their tournament life and knock Kid Poker back to 44,000.

Limit Tournament Draws a Crowd

Negreanu - what all the kids want to look at
Negreanu - what all the kids want to look at
An enormous crowd has formed at the rail, many of them wielding cameras, largely because Daniel Negreanu has been moved over there. He's cheerfully chatting to a very lovely, very leggy railer lady whose short shorts accentuate her assets, while a bunch of poker fans take photos of his back. Very odd.

Negreanu on 50,000 currently.

Naalden's Card Marced

Marc Naalden was heads-up to a {K-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {2-Hearts} flop. His bet was raised and he called to see a {5-Diamonds} turn. Both players checked it through to the {3-Hearts} river where Naalden bet and was called. He then threw his cards towards the muck but was made to show his losing {J-Clubs} {Q-?}. His opponent had tabled {4-?} {4-?} for the pot.

Naalden down on 44,000 now.
