Gregg Gutted

Level 19 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

The board read {4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}, Anthony Gregg bet 27,000, Matt Jarvis raised to 70,000, and Gregg moved all in. Jarvis quickly called.

Gregg: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Jarvis: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Gregg needed one of the two sevens left in the deck to survive, but received neither when the turn and river came {a-Clubs}, {4-Clubs} respectively.

When In Doubt, Call

Level 19 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Nick Maimone was just lamenting over a decision he made in Table 364, when Haralabos Voulgaris offered these pearls of wisdom: "When in doubt, call. You can't win a tournament by folding."

Maimone and the rest of the table said nothing.

"This guy knows what I'm talking about," Voulgaris said as Matt Jarvis walked up to the table. "Can you win a tournament by folding?"

"Not a chance," The 2010 November Niner responded quickly.

Gray "The Sway" Doing Ramage

Grayson Ramage

Matt Jarvis opened to 13,500 from early position, Brendon Rubie called on the button, and Grayson Ramage moved all in for 155,000 from the small blind. Jarvis called, and Rubie released his hand,

Jarvis: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Ramage: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Jarvis' tens remained ahead on the {7-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop, but both the turn and the river were both aces ({a-Hearts}, and {a-Spades} respectively), and Ramage doubled to more than 300,000 chips.

Ramage was once down below 40,000, but has swayed his way back to an average stack. (Thanks to Matt Vengrin for the nickname)

A Stacked Field with 35 Players Left

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
2011 WSOP Bracelets
2011 WSOP Bracelets

We are down to just 35 players left in Event #40: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em/ Six Handed. Phil Helmuth was eliminated in 36th place making it his third cash of this series. He previously cashed in the $10,000 Seven Card Hi/Lo Championship taking down 2nd place for $273,233 and the $10,000 No-Limit Deuce to Seven Draw Championship taking down 2nd place for $226,907. His cash today gives him another $17,270 to add to his winnings. Hellmuth is currently leading the Player of the Year race.

Other notables in the field are Daniel Negreanu who seems to be adjusting well to the six-handed format. Last year he placed 11th the $25,000 six-handed event. This is his second cash of the series having cashed in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout for $4,998 in 59th place.

The defending World Series of Poker Champion Jonathan Duhamel is still a contendor to take down the bracelet. He sits with around 250,000 in chips and is seated at a table with Negreanu and Shane Schleger. Duhamel cashed in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em event earlier this summer when he took 54th for $9,738.

Another November Niner still in the field is Matthew Jarvis, who sits near the top of the leader board with over 650,000 in chips. This will be Jarvis' first cash in the series this summer and is guaranteed to take home $12,270.

There are also many online notables such as Justin Filtz, Nick Maimone, Daniel Hirleman, Taylor Paur, and Brendon Rubie. We still have two more levels of play for the night before we come back for day three.

Hellmuth Out; or, We've Had Our Phil

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth was just engaging both his table and some at the neighboring one over the phrase "anted to death like Broomcorn's uncle." No one seemed to know its origin, but Hellmuth seemed to be indicating it had some relevance to his current situation.

Down to about 55,000 (11 big blinds), Hellmuth open-raised on the button and got one caller in Russell Carson in the small blind. Hellmuth flipped over {A-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and was less than pleased when he saw Carson's {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{K-Spades}{7-Clubs}{J-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, and Hellmuth is out in 36th place. Carson, meanwhile, has collected about 265,000. And several compliments from his tablemates for his winning hand.

You Think I'm Bluffing You?

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

When we reached the table, the board had been completed {j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, and Matt Jarvis and Haralabos Voulgaris were heads up. Jarvis checked, and Voulgaris slid out 50,000 into an 80,000-chip pot.

"If I fold and show one, will you show one?" Jarvis asked.

"Maybe," Voulgaris answered. "Just whatever you do, make it quick."

Jarvis folded, showing the {j-Spades}.

"Choose one," Voulgaris said, separating his two cards.

Jarvis pointed to the furthest one, but Voulgaris laughed and mucked them both.

"You think I'm bluffing you?" he asked Jarvis. "I've never seen you fold a f***in' hand yet!"
