Day 3 Completed
Colombian Daniel Ospina ended Day 1 as far and away chip leader. He repeated the feat on Day 2. When play concluded on Day 3 with only eight players left, Ospina was still on top of the counts but his lead had almost vanished.
For almost the entire day, in fact, it felt like the rest of the field was watching Ospina, wondering who he would knock out next. The only player who got the best of Ospina was Samar Hodali. She spiked a lucky ace when play was nine-handed to double through Ospina's pocket kings with , then used those doubled-up chips to apply some of her own pressure late in the day. It was Hodali who notched the final elimination by taking out 9th-place finisher Mayu Roca with against Roca's .
Hodali's late charge has changed the tenor of the Day 4 final table. But for one river card, Ospina would have started the final table with almost 40% of the chips in play. Instead he and Hodali will start almost level with these six other players:
Seat 1: Karlo Lopez (406,000)
Seat 2: Kemal Ferri (490,000)
Seat 3: Leonardo Zepeda (916,000)
Seat 4: Samar Hodali (1,573,000)
Seat 5: Raul Pino (466,000)
Seat 6: Pablo Gonzales (661,000)
Seat 7: Michel Barham (753,000)
Seat 8: Daniel Ospina (1,582,000)
Ospina is trying to go wire-to-wire at Season 4 LAPT Peru. Only seven more players stand in his way. They'll return at noon local time on Sunday to play down to the champion.
We have our final table of eight players. After an extended period of not very much action at all, Mayu Roca moved his short stack in from early position. Samar Hodali had next action and got right in there with , a big favorite over Roca's . Big Slick worked for Hodali on a board of to send Roca packing in 9th place and end Day 3.
Daniel Ospina was *this* close to ending the day with a big knockout and huge increase to his stack. He managed to get Samar Hodali to move all-in pre-flop with against Ospina's pocket kings. Everything was looking good for Ospina until Hodali spiked an ace on the river. She doubled up to about 1.0 million, knocking Ospina off his lofty perch to 1.6 million.
The final nine players are basically passing the blinds and antes around the table right now. Karlo Lopez has moved all in pre-flop twice but was not called either time. Mayu Roca also moved in once with a similar result.
Seat 1: Pablo Gonzales (685,000)
Seat 2: Daniel Ospina (2,450,000)
Seat 3: Mayu Roca (300,000)
Seat 4: Samar Hodali (640,000)
Seat 5: Michel Barham (470,000)
Seat 6: Kemal Ferri (445,000)
Seat 7: Leonardo Zepeda (860,000)
Seat 8: Karlo Lopez (270,000)
Seat 9: Raul Pino (660,000)
The short stacks at the secondary table have been doing their best to claw their way into the final table. It took a cooler to knock one of them out.
Action folded to Kermal Ferri in the smll blind. He completed, bringing the action to big blind Alcides Tovar. Tovar stuck his whole stack of about 150,000 into the middle with . It was horrible timing; Ferri had snuck into the pot with . Aces held on a board of .
The final nine are now assembling at the feature table. We'll have the re-draw and fresh counts in a few moments. The plan is to play off one more player to reach the official eight-handed final table, at which time Day 3 will conclude.
Kernal Ferri is in trouble. He opened to 61,000 pre-flop, then called Raul Pino's three-bet all-in shove for 368,000 total. It was the most typical of flips with Pino's trying to overtake Ferri's . A queen on the flop held up for Pino, . Dragging that pot increased Pino to 740,000 while dropping Ferri to about 110,000.
A few hands later Ferri doubled back through Pino to 220,000 but that's still very short at the current blind level.
Level: 23
Blinds: 12,000/24,000
Ante: 4,000
Players are on their second break of the day. The plan is to return in 15 minutes and play off two more players to a final table of eight.
