Day 2 Completed
The World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at Harrah's in Tunica, Mississippi continued on Monday with Day 2 action. Out of the original 480 entries, only 111 players returned to compete for their share of the $698,400 prize pool, including the first-place prize of $148,612. By the end of the night, the final table had been reach, which included John Nguyen who will enter the final day with the chip lead of 2.3 million.
Others who began Day 2 but fell shy of the money were Kevin Calenzo, Traci Brown, Tommy Vedes, Jonathan Holloway, and Todd McKellar. On the other hand, a slew of players who fell in Day 2 action managed to crack the top 54 and make the money including: Jeff Gibralter (50th- $2,654), Rusty Boyker (39th- $2,896), Stephen Kats (31st- $3,574), Kai Landry (22nd- $5,378), and Dale Slatton (16th- $7,534).
One of the most interesting storylines of Day 2 was that of La Sengphet, who had won a WSOP gold circuit ring by taking down Event #41: $555 NLHE in Tunica. That win gave her some major points in the race to become Casino Champion, which would automatically qualify her for the WSOPC National Championship. Unfortunately Sengphet’s run came to an end in tenth place when her was outdrawn by the of Jesse White. With her elimination, Kyle Cartwright, the two-time Tunica ring winner, officially locked up the “Casino Champ” designation and will be playing in the WSOPC National Championship in May.
Here is a look at the final table:
Seat 1 | Mary Harden (Ooltewah, TN) | 1,281,000 |

Jesse White was all in from middle position and La Sengphet called off for about 300,000.
White:
Sengphet:
Sengphet was in great shape to double and likely make the final table; instead, the poker gods intervened when the flop came down . Sengphet's face dropped as her supporters started calling for an ace. The river was not it and neither was the .
Sengphet, who needed to finish fifth or better to be named WSOPC Harrah's Tunica Casino Champ and lock up a spot in the National Championship $1 Million Freeroll, was eliminated in tenth place; as such, Kyle Cartwright, two-time ring winner here in Tunica, becomes the official Casino Champ and will be playing in the championship come May.
John Nguyen raised to 63,000 from middle position and was called by Brian Burney on the button and Mary Harden in the big blind. When the flop fell , Harden led out for 100,000, Nguyen called, Burney folded, and the hit the turn. Harden bet another 100,000, Nguyen raised to 255,000, and Harden released. She is down to 920,000 while Nguyen is up to 2.1 million.
John Holley raised to 65,000 from middle position and received calls from Sam Barnhart in the hijack and Jesse White on the button. La Sengphet then moved all in for 387,000, the ultimate squeeze. Both Holley and Barnhart folded and action was back on White. He debated a long time before mucking pocket nines face-up. Sengphet practically doubled on the hand as she is up to 636,000.
Preston Derden was under the gun and raised to 60,000. Action folded to Matthew Lawrence on the button and he promptly moved all in for 260,000. The blinds got out of the way and Derden made the call.
Derden:
Lawrence:
It was a cooler for Lawrence to run his kings into pocket rockets at this point in the tournament. While he desperately needed a king, it did not come as the board ran out . Derden took down the pot and increased his stack to 615,000 while Lawrence visited the payout desk in eleventh place.
Just before the level up, action folded to Kurt Jewell on the button and he moved all in. Mark Kehrees called off his last 240,000 from the big blind and the cards were flipped:
Kehrees:
Jewell:
Kehrees had to be liking his chance of a double, but not after the flop came down . Jewell had hit his ace and was now in the lead. The turn was not very exciting and it was down to the river. Unfortunately for Kehrees, it came the and he was eliminated in 12th place. Jewell is up to 1.55 million.
Level: 26
Blinds: 12,000/24,000
Ante: 4,000
With about 100,000 in the pot and a board reading , Jim Dowen moved all in for 155,000 and was called by John Nguyen. Dowen showed for a pair of queens while Nguyen turned over for two pair. The on the river changed nothing and Dowen was eliminated in 13th place while Nguyen is up to 1.63 million.
