Event 22 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Shootout

Day 2 Completed

Day 2 Concludes

Jason Somerville
Jason Somerville
Play began just about 11 hours ago with an even 100 runners spread across the ten tables in play. The action for this Shootout format tournament was fierce to start the day, with more than half of the field ousted within the first four levels. Things would slow considerably once the tables became short-handed though, with each decision so important. Finally, somewhere deep into level 10, our last match ended, setting up the final table for tomorrow.

Jason Somerville may well be the handicapping favorite going into Day 3, but this format makes things not so easy to call. Each of the ten players will start with the same 450,000-chip stack, and it truly is anyone's game. Things will get started at 2:00pm tomorrow, and we hope you'll join us then as we crown our Shootout Champion. Until then, goodnight from the Amazon Room!

Margolis Seals the Deal

Andrew Margolis
Andrew Margolis
In a repeat of their earlier action, Andrew Margolis made a 20,000 raise preflop and Jan Skampa shoved. Margolis made a snap call and the hands were turned up.

Skampa: {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}
Margolis: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

Skampa held his lead through a flop of {2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, but fell behind when the {K-Clubs} fell on the turn. The {10-Clubs} on the river ended the hand and Margolis advanced.

Liesy Loses to Katchalov

Eugene Katchalov
Eugene Katchalov
Marco Liesy and and Eugene Katchalov got their stacks in the middle before the flop, and Liesy quickly discovered he was drawing very thin.

Liesy: {A-?}{5-?}
Katchalov: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

When Liesy couldn't find an ace on a board of {9-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{7-Spades}, Katchalov took the pot and advanced to Day 3.

Margolis Pulls Ahead

Andrew Margolis raised to 20,000 from the small blind and Jan Skampa reraised all in. Margolis took a long time in the tank before making the call.

Margolis: {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Skampa: {Q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

A 10 in the door on a flop of {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds} put Margolis further ahead in the hand and he held on to win when the board finished with the {3-Clubs}{7-Spades}.

Margolis now has 308,000 to Skampa's 142,000.

McNeil Pulls Ahead

In yet another hand where all the money got in before the flop, Michael McNeil and Arkadiy Tsinis went to war once again.

McNeil: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Tsinis: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

Neither player improved when the cards fell {6-Spades}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, and McNeil's ace played. He now has 340,000 chips to Tsinis' 110,000.

Margolis Doubles Twice

He was a huge underdog just a few hands ago, but now Andrew Margolis has leveled his heads-up match against Jan Skampa after just two hands.

In the first, Margolis got all in with {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} against Skampa's {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and doubled to 95,000 after the board came {K-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Spades}{K-Hearts}.

Just a few hands later, Margolis did it again, getting in with {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs} against Skampa's {7-Spades}{9-Hearts}. This time, he connected on a board of {5-Spades}{8-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}.

Margolis now has 238,000 to Skampa's 212,000.

McNeil and Tsinis Remain Even

The heads-up match between Michael McNeil and Arkadiy Tsinis remains incredibly tight, with neither player able to establish or maintain a big lead.

In a recent hand, the players got all in with Tsinis holding {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} to McNeil's {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. When the board finished at {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Spades}{A-Clubs}, Tsinis evened the match again, bringing his stack to 227,000 vs. McNeil's 223,000.
