Stokes vs. Wolpert: Trading Stacks

Jamin Stokes now leads his match
Jamin Stokes now leads his match
Jamin Stokes raised to 40,000 to open the pot, and Leo Wolpert three-bet it up to about 130,000. Stokes flat-called.

The flop came {4-Spades} {8-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}. Wolpert led out with what appeared to be 164,000, and Stokes wasted little time calling.

Fourth street brought the {7-Clubs}. Wolpert slowed down now with a check, and Stokes obliged him with a bet of 225,000. Wolpert thought a bit longer this time, but not much; he called.

The river came the {4-Hearts}. Wolpert checked again, and Stokes fingered his chips. After stacking out 550,000 and thinking about it, he instead opted to move all in for a lucky total of 777,000. Wolpert asked for a count and then made the call to put his opponent to the test.

Stokes was up to the challenge, tabling {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs} for kings up. Wolpert knocked the table and pushed his cards toward the muck. Stokes asked to see them, and the dealer turned over {J-Spades} {8-Spades}. Stokes takes down the biggest pot of the tournament so far, doubling up to a commanding chip lead.

Stokes - 2,650,000
Wolpert - 1,190,000

Duthie vs. Doudney: One For Doudney

Nathan Doudney opened with the standard raise to 40,000, and John Duthie called.

The flop came {9-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {6-Clubs}, and Duthie put out a bet. Doudney matched the 35,000, and both players checked when the {J-Clubs} hit the turn. On the river, the {2-Spades} implored Duthie to load another bullet. He fired 140,000 at the pot and put his hand back under his chin. With slightly shaky hands, Doudney stacked out the call and placed it in the pot.

Duthie tabled {J-Spades} {Q-Hearts} for top pair, but Doudney could do better. His {J-Hearts} {6-Hearts} gave him two pair and the pot. With that exchange, he has taken a bit of a lead over Duthie.

Duthie - 1,800,000
Doudney - 2,040,000

Stokes vs. Wolpert: Wolpert Risks Half his Stack With A Bluff

Leo Wolpert
Leo Wolpert
Leo Wolpert raised to 40,000 from the button and Jamin Stokes made the call.

The flop came {J-Hearts} {8-Spades} {2-Spades} and both players checked to see the {9-Diamonds} fall on the turn. Stokes checked again and Wolpert bet 50,000. Stokes called.

The river brought the {A-Clubs} and Stokes checked for a third time. Wolpert bet 124,000 and Stokes check raised to 300,000. Wolpert took it one step further and made it 824,000 to go.

Jamin Stokes looked confused by the bet and started muttering to himself. He then stood from the table and said "Did you really hit your gut-shot?"

Finally he sat back down and mucked his hand.

Wolpert showed his hand - {10-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} for bottom pair and took down the pot.

Leo Wolpert - 2,140,000
Jamin Stokes - 1,700,000

Stokes vs. Wolpert; Raise, Reraise, Reraise

Jamin Stokes raised to 40,000 from the button and Leo Wolpert made it 135,000 to go. Stokes put in another yet another reraise to 250,000, taking down the pot.

Wolpert had won two previous pots and they remain about even after the first 12 minutes.

Duthie vs. Doudney: The First Bite

John Duthie raised to 45,000 from the button, and Nathan Doudney came along to the flop.

It brought {6-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {8-Spades}, and both men checked. Fourth street came the {9-Spades}, and Doudney checked again. Duthie laid out 125,000, and Doudney made the call.

The last card off was the {J-Spades}. After another check, Duthie carefully stacked out and slid forward 325,000 chips. Doudney sat shuffling a handful of orange chips before letting his hand go.

The first small battle goes to John Duthie.

Final Four!

Welcome back to the $10,000 Heads-Up World Championship!

All but 4 of the 256 players who began this event have been eliminated, leaving just five battles left to fight. The final four players are about to take their seats for a pair of heads-up matches to determine which two players will advance to the final best-of-three showdown for all the marbles (or chips, if you will).

Here are the long-awaited pairings for this Round of 4:

Nathan Doudney
vs.
John Duthie

Leo Wolpert
vs.
Jamin Stokes

Play should be underway in just a few minutes, so sit tight. We'll be right back when the cards are in the air.

One-Hour Break

Thanks to that epic heads-up battle, the Round of 8 has run long. Instead of the scheduled 6:00pm restart, the staff has decided to give the players one more hour.

The Final Four will kick off at 7:30pm from right here in the featured table arena.
