Live Reporter

Anthony Thompson is a U.S. based writer who hails from the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes and has had a passion for poker for well over 20 years. What started out as just a friendly game of Fear Factor poker in his best friend’s basement turned into a love that would lead him on life’s journey.

After earning himself three Minnesota State Poker Championships by the age of 24 in the Free Poker Network’s bar league, and a third-place finish in their National Championship held at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, Nevada, Thompson turned his sights on getting a degree in Mass Communications and Broadcasting. Once he left St. Cloud State University in 2018, he stepped foot into the other side of the poker world by joining PokerNews’ live reporting team for the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP) as a freelance worker. While it was a gruelling summer in the heart of Sin City, he hopped on the PokerNews team as a full-time live reporter and took on a Media Coordinating position for the WSOP.

What then shifted to a life on the road, traveling city to city, was quickly halted by the 2020 pandemic, but even with the world at a standstill, Anthony was able to pursue his career as a live reporter by covering different prestigious online events. With what seemed like a never-ending time, things eventually started returning to normal, and after seven-plus years in the industry, he continues to travel the U.S. covering events for the Major Series of Poker the Tour.
