Disappointed Pickering Can't Knock Out Bechara

Robert Bechara, desperately short, open-shoved for just less than 40,000 chips. Jamie Pickering decided to take a flyer from the small blind with {4-Spades} {8-Spades}. He was disappointed to see that he didn't even have two live cards, as Bechara turned over {4-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}. The board bricked out, {3-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {2-Clubs} to allow Bechara to double up to 80,000.

Ugly Double Elimination for Carron and Mutrie

Daniel Kowalski
Daniel Kowalski
With all of the cooler hands we've seen so far in this tournament, what's another one on the bubble? Daniel Kowalski got things started, raising to 70,000, which was enough to put Patrick Carron all in. Carron called, only to see Eric Mutrie move all in behind him for 110,000. Kowalski called both raises as the spectators crowded around the table to watch the massive pot play out.

Kowalski: {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}
Carron: {9-Diamonds} {9-Hearts}
Mutrie: {J-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}

Kowalski was roughly a sixty percent favorite to win the hand and knock out two players. The roars of the crowd told the story on the flop, however. It came {3-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {9-Spades} to make a set for both Carron and Mutrie. There were still cards to come, and damn if the turn wasn't the {K-Hearts} to make a set of Kowalski's own! There was no miracle for Carron or Mutrie on the river; it fell {6-Hearts}. Kowalski dragged a massive 375,000-chip pot while Carron and Mutrie retired to the rail.

Sansi Sent Packing

APPT Manila final table player Manish Sansi has fallen tantalizingly short of the money here in Sydney. He was all in on a flop of {3-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}, tabling {8-Spades} {7-Spades} when Tony Basile called. Basile was one pip better, showing an overpair of {9-Clubs} {9-Hearts} and leaving Sansi drawing at the two remaining eights in the deck. He didn't catch either of them; the turn came {Q-Clubs} and river came {6-Clubs}. He's out. We're one player closer to being done for the night.

Another Sick One Sends Bampton To The Rail

The action folded to John Bampton in the small blind who moved all in but Tim English made the call in the big blind.

Bampton: {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}
English: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{A-Clubs} and in another emotional pot, Bampton went from hero on the turn to zero on the river as English made trip aces. Bampton is disappointed to hit the rail as English now sits behind over 300,000 chips.

Trading Places

Eric Assadourian
Eric Assadourian
David Lee and Eric Assadourian have traded places in the counts. Lee opened the pot for 16,000 from the button, only to see Assadourian move all in from the small blind for a total of 42,000. Lee started the hand with only 75,000 chips, so it was not an insignificant decision for him when the big blind folded. He elected to call with {K-Clubs} {8-Clubs} and found himself up against Assadourian's {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}. Lee was drawing dead by the turn after failing to connect with a board of {5-Clubs} {3-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {4-Spades}. The river {3-Diamonds} fell, sending the pot to Assadourian.

Assadourian's double leaves him slightly less short than he was, at 94,000 chips. Lee is now the shortest stack in the tournament, with just 33,000.

Damelian Done

The flop was {7-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{J-Hearts} when Frank Saffioti fired out a bet of 15,000. The action was then with Roberto Damelian who moved all in for about 85,000. Saffioti thought for a long time before making the call.

Saffioti: {K-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Damelian: {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

It was a great call by Saffioti as his pair was in the lead but he'd have to dodge a lot of outs. However the turn and river bricked {A-Spades}, {3-Diamonds} and Damelian is eliminated.

We're On The Bubble!

With the elimination of Roberto Damelian we are officially on the money bubble. The next player eliminated will go home after a long couple of days work with nothing but a story to tell, as the remaining 48 players will sleep well tonight knowing that they are AU$8,400 richer.

We're now playing hand-for-hand on all tables.

Play Slows

As to be expected when we're on the bubble the play has slowed right down across all tables, as no one wants the label of being the "bubble boy/girl!".

Most players are folding and leaving their seats to walk around the room to keep an eye on the progress of short stacks, however TD Danny McDonagh has given clear instructions to dealers to muck the cards of any player who is not seated in their seat when the cards are dealt.

"Watch them run!" laughed McDonagh.
