Richard Lancaster Eliminated in 5th Place (NZ$42,606)

Richard Lancaster - 5th Place
Richard Lancaster - 5th Place
Gerome Guitteau raised it up to 70,000 from the button before Richard Lancaster moved all in from the big blind for all of his 225,000-chip stack. Guitteau insta-called.

Lancaster: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Guitteau: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

Lancaster was in a dominant position to double up but the board fell {3-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} to give Guitteau a running Broadway straight to take it down and eliminate Lancaster in 5th place. He collects NZ$42,606 for a fine tournament.

Kiwi Kevin Clark Claims High Rollers Title

Meanwhile on a nearby table in the SKYCITY Casino Poker Room the High Rollers Event has finally reached a conclusion. It was an epic heads-up match between local Kevin Clark and Australian George Moussa that started last night, was paused at 6am, and then resumed this afternoon.

After several more hours of back and forth action, Clark finally got on top after a cooler hand went his way.

It was Clark's {Q-Spades}{4-Clubs} against Moussa's {Q-Hearts}{3-Spades} on a board of {Q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}. As you can imagine, there was betting on every street and the result was that Moussa was crippled.

Next hand, Moussa's last chips went into the middle with {J-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} against the dominant {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} of Clark and the board ran out {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} to give Clark the title and a win for the locals!

Not The River Sijia Needed

Preflop, Jason Brown raised it up from the small blind to 65,000 and after some thought Ke Sijia made the call.

Both players checked the {3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop and moved to the {9-Clubs} turn.

Brown was first out of the gates on the turn betting 45,000 and Sijia called. On the river {k-Hearts} Brown started to pick up some chips to bet, and Sijia just flicked his cards into the muck.

Small One For Brown

Simon Watt raised to 60,000 on the button and Jason Brown made the call in the big blind.

The flop fell {A-Spades}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Brown led out with a bet of 100,000. Watt deliberated for a few minutes before folding.

"I know you were on a draw," quipped Watt.

Brown Overbets With Success

Ke Sijia opened to 70,000 from under the gun and play folded around to Jason Brown in the big blind who declared himself all in! It was a massive overbet in the vicinity of 900,000 which covered the stack of Sijia.

Sijia thought for a moment and then folded his {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} - a big fold in a four-handed game. Brown then let his opponent pick one of his cards and the {K-Hearts} was flashed.

Jason Brown Puts The Pressure On

Preflop, Ke Sijia opened to 60,000. Next to act was Simon Watt who called from the button, as did Gerome Guitteau who called from the small blind.

Jason Brown then spoiled the calling party by moving all in from the big blind. Sijia and Watt both got out of the way and action was on Guitteau.

"Are you squeezing again?" asked Guitteau. Brown didn't respond.

"You have six-seven again?" asked Guitteau referring to an earlier hand they played.

This time Brown felt like chatting. "That's exactly what I have," he said.

Guitteau eventually laid his hand down and Brown then said "I actually had seven-eight," as he pitched his cards into the muck.

Brown is up to 1,100,000 in chips.
