Jingzhi Wang Leads After Day 1a of the 2019 APPT Manila Main Event

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Jingzhi Wang
Jingzhi Wang

The first flight of the 2019 PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Manila ₱65,000 Main Event is in the books, and it is Jingzhi Wang who managed to bag the biggest stack of the day. When everything was done, she wrote on her bag the number 468,000, which is good enough to give her the chip lead.

Jingzhi Wang has only two cashes registered in her name according to the Hendon Mob database, one of them from this very festival in Manila, and the other one in APPT Jeju one month ago. Now she is placed better than any other entrant of Day 1a, in order to go deep into the event, and at least secure her third lifetime cash.

The opening flight of the Main Event comprised of 403 entries, with 347 unique players, and only 101 of them managed to stay on their seats after the end of 13 levels of play.

Other players that bagged big for Day 1a are Edgar Kim (317,000), Yuri Odagiri (270,000), and Le Thai Loc (241,000).

Among those that played the first flight but didn't make it through are 2019 APPT National final tablists, Thijs Hilberts, Eran Shaham, Lee Wang Yong, Si Yang Phua, along with Tae Hoon Han, Ulrik Scotwin, and Siyuan Wang.

Tomorrow will be a new day, and everyone who didn't advance to Day 2 will have the chance to give it a try during Day 1b. This will be the second and last flight of the Main Event, and it is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. local time. The ₱20,000,000 guaranteed has been smashed from Day 1a, as there are already ₱22,868235 in the prize pool, and it can only go up after the second starting flight.

The 101 players that will continue their efforts in Day 2, will return on Saturday 3 August at 1:00 p.m. local time, for the penultimate day of the Main Event. This will be the last, and the most prestigious event that will be live report by the PokerNews team here in Manila, so stay tuned for all the action as it unfolds.

A King Sends Song Packing

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Liang Song
Liang Song

Liang Song was all-in for 27,500, after his opponent's three-bet to 7,500 chips. The other player called and they opened their cards:

Liang Song: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

The flop was great for Song, with {j-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} giving him middle set, and leaving his opponent drawing only to a king for a straight.

The {k-Clubs} on the turn was exactly what Song didn't want to see, but he still had outs to win the pot.

The {a-Diamonds} on the river wasn't one of them, and Song said "Nice hand", while he was standing up to leave his seat.

2019 APPT Jeju Main Event Champion in the House

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante
Huidong Gu
Huidong Gu

Huidong Gu is coming off a great accomplishment, as he is the latest APPT Main Event champion, winning it in Jeju a month ago.

He is now playing another APPT Main Event, here in Manila, and was just spotted cracking kings to double up. He was all in preflop with {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} against his opponent's {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}.

The board ran out {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}{9-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, and doubled up, while his opponent was left crippled.

Ysmael Picks up Aces; Busts One

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante
William Ysmael
William Ysmael

William Ysmael was on the cutoff position, and played a three-bet pot versus another player.

The flop came {8-Spades}{q-Spades}{10-Spades}, and Ysmael called his opponent's shove, who was drawing to only one out, or some runner-runner cards.

Ysmael had {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} against his opponent's {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, and the {5-Spades} on the turn gave the pot to Ysmael. The {4-Diamonds} on the river couldn't change anything, and Ysmael sent his opponent to the rail.
