Lieu Doubles Thrieu

Facing a 3,000 raise from a player in mid-position, Liz Lieu moved all in over the top for a total of 9,200. The player on the button insta-called and the original raiser got out of the way.

Lieu: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Button: {K-Spades}{J-Spades}

Lieu held the lead in the hand from start to finish as the board filled out {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. Lieu doubled up and then some, stacking up 25,000 in chips after the hand.

Double Me Up, Baby!

Scotty Nguyen has gone all in three times over the last five minutes (twice called), and has managed to jump from 2,500 to just over 10,000 in chips.

His most recent double up saw Scotty get it all in holding {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} against an opponent's {A-Spades}{4-Spades}. The board filled out Q-6-9-9-7 and Scotty's A-K high was good enough to scoop the pot.

Break Time

The tournament clock has been paused while the players take their last break of the evening. When they return, we'll play one more level before we retire for the night.

The Prince of Poker Doubles Before the Break

On the very last hand before the players broke for their break, Scotty Nguyen moved all in from the cutoff for a total of 9,200 holding {A-Hearts}{5-Clubs}. Action then folded around to the big blind, who took a second to consider is decision.

"I hope you have king-queen, baby," said Scotty to his lone opponent, who called and tabled none other than K-Q.

While Scotty's opponent had the cards he wanted him to have, the flop brought three cards he didn't care to see: {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Scotty would now need to hit an ace or running straight or flush cards to stay alive. The turn cooperated, bringing the {K-Hearts} which kept Scotty's hopes alive... and when the {J-Hearts} fell on the river, the crowd that had surrounded his table let out a collective "Ohhh!" as Scotty had completed his runner-runner flush to stay alive.

After the hand, the Prince of Poker stacked up just over 20,000 in chips.

Lull in Play

The play seems to have slowed down quite a bit this level, so let us take this time to remind you that play will restart tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 noon local time. The top 40 finishers will walk away with more money than they started with -- barring none of them dropped a load of cash on one of the many Baccarat tables placed strategically near the entrances and exits.

40th place will receive $3,238 in prize money and $222,640 has been reserved for first.

Day 1 Winding Down

The tournament staff has just asked anyone who is not a member of the media or a player in the event to exit the tournament area while we wrap up the last eight minutes of the day.

Schulze Grabs the Chip Lead Heading Into Day 2

Minutes before play was stopped for the evening, Tobias Schulze of Germany won a pot that - we think - catapulted him into the chip lead heading into Day 2.

An opponent moved all in from under the gun for approximately 20,000 in chips. Schulze made the call from the button holding pocket jacks; his opponent tabled {K-Spades}{10-Hearts}.

The board filled out {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Schulze's jacks held up, pushing him past the 200,000 threshold on the day.
