Chris Chau Eliminated in 5th Place ($65,279)

Chris Chau - 5th Place
Chris Chau - 5th Place
Chris Chau saw what looked like a good spot to try to accumulate chips. Rocking a severely short stack, he moved in for 81,000 after Inwook Choi opened to 30,000 and was called by Adrien Allain from the small blind. Both Choi and Allain called, giving Chau the chance to triple up but also giving him two opponents to overcome. Choi and Allain checked all the way down on a board of {10-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}, with Choi making tens and threes. It was the best hand at showdown, resulting in Chau's elimination from the tournament in 5th place.

Allain Cautious with Queens

We had our first multi-way pot of the day that didn't involve an all-in player. Adrien Allain opened to 30,000 and was called by small blind David Steicke and big blind J.C. Tran. Steicke and Tran checked an all-small flop, {2-Hearts} {6-Spades} {4-Diamonds}. Allain made a bet of 70,000 that only Steicke called.

Both players checked the {8-Hearts} turn and the {7-Diamonds} river. Steicke might have thought his {A-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} ace-high had a chance to drag the pot, but Allain turned up two queens -- {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} -- to take it down.

Tran Gets Maximum Value

J.C. Tran was out of position for a pot he played against Adrien Allain but managed to extract maximum value all the same. Tran called Allain's raise to 35,000 from the big blind. Both players checked the {k-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} flop. Train checked again when the turn fell {9-Spades}, then called a bet of 40,000. Tran check-called one last tim on the river {j-Hearts}, with Allain making the price 80,000. Allain didn't seem to be thrilled to turn his hand over, realizing that if Tran had called he could probably beat {5-Diamonds} {5-Spades}. Indeed he could; Tran table {K-Spades} {q-Hearts} to take down the pot.

Steicke Gets One Back

David Steicke popped it up to 42,000 from the button and J.C. Tran called from the small blind.

These two are certainly clashing frequently here this afternoon, but this was one of the first opportunities for Steicke to have position. It was effective for him, as he took down the pot with a bet of 42,000 on the {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{j-Spades} flop.

Allain Finds Fifth Gear

Three players each committed 30,000 preflop to see a flop of {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

Inwook Choi led out from the blinds with a bet of 70,000 which forced a fold from David Steicke, before Adrien Allain made it 180,000 to play. Choi deliberated and committed calling chips.

The pot was very healthy as the {3-Hearts} hit the turn. Choi checked and Allain fired another 180,000. Choi quickly gave it up and Allain flashed {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}!

Savage Cheeky as Steicke and Tran Chop

David Steicke limped into the pot from the small blind before big blind J.C. Tran declined his option in the big blind. Both players checked the {7-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} flop. Steicke fired for 16,000 when the turn fell {4-Spades}. Tran called.

On the river {A-Diamonds} Steicke led out for 24,000 more. Tran called again. Each player made a five-high straight, Steicke with {2-?} {4-?} and Tran with {2-?} {5-?}.

"Deuce-four, deuce-five. Both offsuit. Championship poker up here," deadpanned TD and MC Matt Savage.

Feeling Flushy

David Steicke limped into the pot, Adrien Allain completed from the small blind and Inwook Choi checked his option in the large.

The flop fell a monotone {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Allain led out for 30,000. Choi popped it up to 95,000 as Steicke stepped aside. Allain made the call.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} and both players slowed down to check before the {5-Spades} hit the river. Allain was first to act and fired out 100,000. Choi thought for a few minutes before making a crying call.

Allain tabled {K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for the king-high flush which was good to take it down as Allain's good run on this final table continues.

Tran's Check-Raise Does the Trick

J.C. Tran is currently the short stack at the table but is doing his best to accumulate chips. He called Adrien Allain's raise to 35,000 from the big blind, then checked a flop of {Q-Spades} {j-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}. Allain bet 55,000 and quickly folded to Tran's check-raise to 140,000. Tran showed one card - a four.
