Seidel Sneaks a Pot

Annette Obrestad raised to 400 under the gun, called by Marcel Baran in the hijack and Erik Seidel on the button.

Flop: {3-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts}

Annette did not heart the flop; she checked it and Baran bet 900. Seidel called, and Annette folded and wandered off.

Turn: {10-Clubs}

Baran bet another 1,500 and this time Seidel raised to 4,000. Call.

River: {9-Hearts}

With a have of his hand, Baran checked, and Seidel bet 8,000. A look of consternation from Baran, followed by a fold, and Seidel picked up the considerable pot. It looks like Seidel may have earlier on been a victim of Ms Obrestad, though -- after that pot, he was only up to 32,000 or so, while Annette's stack is an impressive 63,000 already. Baran is now down to 16,000.

Chips Attracted to Good Conversationalists

Doing pretty well in the closing minutes of Level Two are two of the more colourful characters on the European circuit, Roland de Wolfe (43,500) and Andy Black (38,900). Black is in lively form entertaining (or baffling) his table with an admittedly hypnotic monologue (I stood behind him for over five minutes and all I can remember is him saying, "He kept shouting, 'Fuzzy Beard!' The guy was insane...").

Roland de Wolfe just caught sight of his friend and original garish T-shirt aficionado Noah Boeken. "Noah Boeken!" he shouted, getting his attention, "EPT Season One!"

Laughing, Boeken replied, "New hair cut? [de Wolfe is sporting very little] Finally realise you're getting old?"

Having given and received the necessary digs, they shake hands and Boeken wishes de Wolfe good luck, though.

Late Arrival

Oh dear. Patrik Antonius has just shown up, two hours late, and discovered that his seat assignment is no longer there -- that table was broken before the break. Tournament staff are running around trying to work out where to put him, as he stands politely next to what used to be his table, looking a bit lost.

Brenes' Love Won't Wait

Humberto: Karaoke Wiz
Humberto: Karaoke Wiz
Flamboyant visored Costa Rican Humberto Brenes is up to around 38,000 and slightly more now after winning a smallish pot from an opponent whom he serenaded nonstop with an at times frighteningly high-pitched rendition of "It's Now or Never."

Brenes won the hand at showdown after checking and getting a check behind on a board of {2-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {K-Spades} - he showed {3-Hearts} {6-Hearts} , pointing out the turned flush draw as his threes held up. Somehow he managed to work in the words, "Flush draw," into the song.

This is Not a Test-ud

Paul Testud just came out on the right side of a big pot which threatened to be a whole-stacker for a minute or so...

He had somehow built a pot of 5,500 heads up, and faced one yellow 5k chip bet out at him from the under-the-gun player on the turn. The board read {3-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} . He fairly quickly raised to three yellow chips, which left him with 10k behind and his opponent with a big decision. The result of this was, eventually, a fold.

Ivey Death-Watch

A couple of tables in the back of the room have a constant media presence. We've already pointed out one of the tougher tables in the room, Table 35. Right next to Table 35 is Table 34. Not too many big names on that one, but one name is bigger than all the rest: Phil Ivey. We passed by the table a few moments ago to watch Ivey move his depleted stack of 1,000 chips into the middle with pocket jacks. A player called with ace-king, but couldn't outrace Ivey. He doubled up to 2,000. We'll see how long he can hold onto this chips.

Drawing into Doom

As the earliest of the eliminations continue, a few table breaks in the back of the room have created some intriguing new tables. At the top of the list? Table 28. It now includes: Michael Tureniec, Alexandre Gomes, Patrik Antonius and Dennis Phillips. Antonius is all smiles and chatting it up (in Finnish) with Sami Kelopuro, who is one table away.
