Steicke Says No

Nikolay Tsanev opened with a small raise to 4,100 under the gun, and action came around the table to David Steicke in position. He stuck in a three-bet to 11,100, and it was back on Tsanev. The Russian looked pained as he shook his head and stared off into space. Eventually, he made another raise to 29,700, and Steicke put in the call.

The flop came out {8-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}, and Tsanev again looked gutshot. He held his nose with two pinched fingers, his head down and rocking back and forth. He finally looked up and pushed the remaining ~45,000 of his chips into the middle. Steicke shrugged and instantly open-mucked {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}.

His opponent tabled his hand, but only the top {A-Diamonds} was visible. The dealer spread the two cards and revealed the {A-Clubs} underneath. "Oh, you had aces," said Steicke, sounding not-at-all surprised.

Phillips Leaves Hedlund Pulling His Hair Out

Peter Hedlund was back at it with Carter Phillips. The final board read {J-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {2-Spades} {3-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} and Hedlund had checked to Phillips. The pot sat at approximately 38,000 and Phillips opted for a bet of 21,000.

"You must have hit that queen." mumbled Hedlund, as he sat hunched over, not sure what to do. Eventually, he tossed in the call.

Hedlund almost lost it when Phillips revealed {Q-Spades} {10-Spades}. Hedlund started complaining that he held a better flush draw and a pair, flashing {K-Spades} {3-Spades}. Hedlund tossed his hand way up into the air and mucked it, running his hand through his hair and pulling hard on it.

Day 2 is Done

The remaining 148 players returned to the Casinos Poland today for the continuation of the 2009 PokerStars.com EPT Warsaw. Scheduled for five 75-minute levels, the day was cut short midway though the final round as we reached the requisite 56 players remaining.

Carter Phillips came into play with a commanding chip advantage, and he would increase that lead over the course of the first three levels. A few late slips saw him ousted from that lofty position for the first time in a long time, but he'll still return tomorrow with a well-above-average stack.

Day 1b leader Antony Lellouche struggled to get in a forward gear at all today. His stack was whittled further and further toward the felt all day, but he managed to make a decent recovery to bag up a little over 60,000 at night's end.

It appears that Canadian Clayton Mozdzen has earned himself the top spot heading in the middle day tomorrow. The online qualifier picked and chose profitable spots today, and he saw his stack increase more than threefold over the course of the seven hours. After the final bell sounded, Mozdzen needed two plastic bags in which to stuff his 332,300 chips.

That should be good enough to put him well in the lead, though we'll have to wait for the official chip counts from the tournament staff. The 56 who survived Day 2 will be right back here tomorrow to pick up the action on Day 3. Of course, we'll be here following all the action, and we hope you will join us too.

Until tomorrow, goodnight from Poland.
