Day 1A Started
Hello and welcome to a rather cold Czech Republic for the 2010 European Poker Tour Prague. It may be a goosebump inducing minus five degrees outside the luxurious Hilton, but you can rest assured that the action at the tables today will be red hot.
A total of 49 tables have been available for the players today and as I type this the dealers are having their briefing and they're obviously happy about the fact as there has been cheering and applause!
A whole host of Team PokerStars pros are due to play today including Arnaud Mattern, Marcin Horecki and Martin Hruby who will be looking to impress here on home soil. Other notable players include 2010 EPT Berlin winner Kevin MacPhee, EPT Copenhagen champion Anton Wigg and Dominik Nitsche who made it deep at the recent EPT Barcelona.
Play is due to begin at 1200 noon local time so stay tuned for the very best in live poker tournament coverage.
The published noon start time has been and gone, but we're not quite at the shuffle-up-and-deal. However, dealers and players are appearing in the cardroom now, so we're hopeful that it'll be soon.
Level: 1
Blinds: 50/100
Ante: 0
The atmosphere may be rather subdued, but the stakes are very high. Ladies and gentlemen, this EPT is underway.
Current leader of the 2010 European Poker Tour Player of the Year, Portugal's Ferando Brito has just lost a few chips then immediately afterwards wins some of them straight back.
On a board reading Brito check-called a bet of 700 but both players checked the on the river. Brito shaped to turn his cards over but changed his mind as his opponent flipped over -5h4h] for a straight.
The very next hand Brito opened from under the gun and his opponent from the last hand, now sat in the hijack, made the call. The flop came down , Brito made a continuation bet of 550, which was enough to scoop the pot.
Mr Brito is now on exactly 30,000 chips, which incidentally is the starting stack of the players today
Among those who were here for the very start today (each table still has a few playerless stacks) are these gentlemen and lady:
Player | Chips | Progress |
---|---|---|
Sorel Mizzi | 30,000 | |
Nicolas Levi | 30,000 | |
Dan Murariu | 30,000 | |
Arnaud Mattern | 30,000 | |
Jan Skampa
|
30,000 | |
Martin Kabrhel | 30,000 | |
Maria Maceiras | 30,000 | |
Ludovic Lacay
|
30,000 | |
Ronan Monfort | 30,000 | |
Dominik Nitsche | 30,000 | |
Joao Barbosa
|
30,000 | |
Luca Cainelli | 30,000 |
The first level has been kinder to Martin Kabrhel than his expression might lead you to believe. A master of the perfectly-still dwell up, Kabrhel just won a tidy couple of thousand from an opponent who'd raised in early position. Kabrhel in the small blind was first seen leading out for 875 on a flop of . His opponent raised to 1,800, prompting a brief think and call. The turn brought the and another bet out from Kabrhel - this time 2,875. Even with starting stacks of 30,000, that's a sizeable Level 1 bet, and after looking somewhat puzzled at the way this hand played out, the flop raiser finally let his hand go.
Dermot Blain, the winner at the 2009 APPT Macau Main Event is present in the cardroom but has just dropped to 28,000.
Joining the hand on a board reading , Blain bet 300 from the big blind and his opponent on the button quickly made the call. The river brought the and this time Blain checked. His opponent quickly bet a single red 1,000 chip, which prompted Blain to check his hole cards. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't magically turn them into two hearts and he mucked his hand.
Maria 'May' Maceiras is no stranger to the EPT. In fact, she has cashed three times this year already, and finished 40th back in 2008 when the buy-in to EPT Barcelona was an even-steeper €8,000. Today she's up from her starting 30,000 by a couple of thousand, and looking focused beneath her jumbo silver headphones. Her most recent pot came courtesy of a board, which she bet from the button (1.050) after calling a flop bet from the preflop raiser. She had called 300 preflop from the button after a couple of other players had called, stayed around on the Jack-high flop (unlike the others) and then took the pot right there.
