Table Chattha

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Over on Table 1 there has been some words of war between Charles Chattha and Felix Bleiker, the only man not to write on his bag how many chips he had at the end of Day 2.

Bleiker had accused Chattha of stalling during a hand, which seemed to rile Mr Chattha somewhat.

"You're having a laugh," exclaimed Chattha, before informing Bleiker that he had "only played like three hands so far."

Looks like Chattha has himself an enemy for some reason! Chattha is a man in form, having finished third in a £2,500 event just two weeks ago for a cool £63,395.

We'll keep our eyes and ears open on Table 1 for any more developments

Nullified

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Olivier Daeninckx opened to 12,000 preflop from early position and Melanie Weisner had flat-called on the button. Former EPT finalist Rasmus Nielsen then peeled from the small blind and big blind Roberto Nulli also made the call.

The flop came {J-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} with Nielsen and Nulli checking it across to Daeninckx who bet 18,500. Weisner quickly folded, as did the Dane but Nulli check-raised to what looked to be around 60,000 with about 105,000 behind, leaving the Frenchman scratching his head. After a minute, he made his decision, one of moving all-in to cover the Italian, Nulli called instantly.

Daeninckx: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}
Nulli: {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The turn was the {J-Spades} to give Nulli quads and he cheered incredibly loudly to the point that Matt Affleck on the next table gave him some slightly tongue-in-cheek applause. The {7-Spades} river changed nothing and Nulli doubled to around 370,000. Daeninckx was left with about 140,000.

Nitsche Philosophical in Defeat

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

Dominik Nitsche started the day on just about average, but he has now plummeted right into the 10-big-blind danger zone.

"I doubled someone up," he said cheerfully when a concerned member of the German press enquired as to what had happened. As it turned out, our roving reporter Gloria Balding and her giant cup of coffee witnessed it firsthand. According to her and her caffeinated friend, the board was jack-high and the chips went in at some point before the river, Nitsche holding a jack of some sort and local boy Radim Soudsky holding pocket kings.

Soudsky doubled to around 300,000 but Nitsche was left with just 45,000 or so - nine big blinds right now. We did see him go all in once after that but he got no callers, and remains in a precarious position as we near the bubble.

Ulusu with the Best Hand

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

A most fortunate double up for Ion Pavel - he got it in with {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts} against Cengiz Ulusu's {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and started to make a sound like, "Bah," but soon quietened down when the board ran out {4-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{a-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Pavel doubled to 240,000 and Ulusu dropped to 190,000.

Berggren and Bear It

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Andreas Berggren is another unfortunate Day 3 pre-money elimination. Returning with under the day 1 starting stack (30k) he was in full double-up-or-go-home mode (I saw him move in three times, and that's checking on his table once every 15 minutes). Once he managed the double, when Melanie Weisner had to give him a spin with {6-Spades}{4-Spades} having raised to 12,500. His {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} stayed ahead (hitting a relaxing flop containing a Jack and two clubs), but within five minutes he was spotted heading towards the exit, and not the cash desk.

Babel Busts Bleiker Near The Bubble

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Not long after Felix Bleiker and Charles Chatter had entered a war of words, the former has been eliminated before anything more intersting could develop.

A preflop raising battle saw Bleiker at risk with {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} against Nicolas Babel's {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and when the final board came down {10-Spades}{6-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{A-Hearts} it was game over for Bleiker and Chattha couldn't help but smile to himself!

You Win Some You Losev Some

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Nikolay Losev - "Greensteined" Darcourt
Nikolay Losev - "Greensteined" Darcourt

The board is showing 82 players but it almost had to be changed to 81 had it not been for a cruel ace on the river.

Guillaume Dacourt and Nikolay Losev entered a raising war that prompted Darcourt to ask how many chips his opponent add. The dealer counted his stack out and the answer given to Darcourt was 153,000.

"OK. I'm all in," announced Darcourt, causing Losev to rock back in his chair.

"How many you have," quizzed Losev in slightly broken English.

"I have you covered." said Darcourt firmly, but Losev wasn't so sure.

"He has you covered" informed the dealer.

After checking the television screen to see how many players were remaining, Losev made the call.

Darcourt: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

Losev: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Darcourt was slightly in front but his lead was extended as the flop came down {7-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and went even further in front with the arrival of the {4-Diamonds} on the turn. However, he went from hero to zero when the {a-Clubs} peeled off on the river, doubling Losev to over 320,000 chips!

Darcourt jumped out of his seat and spoke quickly and angrily in French, maybe saying something like "oops" or "damn and blast" before leaving the tournament floor for a much needed cigarette.

Areas of High Pressure

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Chaz Chattha
Chaz Chattha

Chaz Chattha, undisputed Grinder of the Tournament, has just 85,000 going into the first break (a stack he probably would have considered a high point most of yesterday). He was faced with a big decision just now, and his tortured throw-fold at the end of it showed the kind of pressure he was under.

Chattha had raised to 12k preflop, and Nicolas Babel had put in a little nibbling re-raise, to 22,500. This fold/push decision put him through the wringer; while Babel sat absolutely still and silent, Chattha mused, "Will you show me? No answer? I have pocket Tens. And it's bubble time as well...so sick!"

He passed, and will restart the next level in the same sort of shape chip-wise he's been in for many a level.

Break

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We are just two places off the money, and it's time to take a break. We will very soon have 80 happy people in here and two very unhappy ones. Please stand by.
