They are Dropping Like Flies

Here is a brief update on the latest eliminations at EPT Vienna.

Elimination 1 - Markus Herbel

Sergii Baranov opened from the cut-off and Herbel shoved before Baranov called. Baranov had {a-Hearts} {10-Clubs} and Herbel had him dominated with {a-Diamonds} {q-Clubs}. The flop changed things however as Baranov hit his ten {7-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} turn and river were no help to Herbel turn {9-Hearts} river {j-Spades}.

Baranov ~352,000

Elimination 2 - Peter Kamaras

Kamaras opened to 17,000 from early position and Ramin Hajiyev called on the button. Team Pokerstars Pro Martin Hruby also called from the Small Blind. The flop was {10-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {7-Spades} and everyone checked. The turn was {9-Spades} and Hruby led out for 32,500. Action over to Kamaras who three-bet to 81,500 and Hajiyev shoved before Hruby folded. Kamaras made the call. Kamaras had {9-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} for a turned set and Hajiyev had {6-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} for the straight.

"Pair the board!" Shouted Kamaras. It didn't pair the board and Kamaras left the bulding after a friendly hand shake and good luck gesture to the rest of the plkayers on his table.

Elimination 3 - Cengiz Can Ulusu

We are not sure how the money went in but Antonio Buonanno won the hand when his pocket Kings beat the {a-Hearts} {j-Hearts} of Ulusu.

Buonanno - 880,000

Can't See the Ellwood for the Trees

It looked as though Tonio Röder had made the initial raise and Jack Ellwood had reraised before calling all in to a push from Röder; however it went down, Ellwood would soon be hitting the rail.

Röder: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Ellwood: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Board: {8-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Ellwood headed for the door. Röder meanwhile is in great shape - he's up to 900,000.

Nein Nine for Cainelli

A steep drop into the danger zone for Luca Cainelli, who found himself almost all in on the turn in bad shape indeed, with {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} vs. the {3-Spades}{3-Clubs} of Fabrizio Gonzalez. There was a third trey on board: {8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{5-Spades} and with no Nine on the river Gonzalez doubled to 400,000.

You would be forgiven for thinking that the reason his last 30,500 went all in the next hand was desperation/tilt, but in fact he had a miraculous pair of Queens! Both blinds ended up calling his shove and checking down the {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Spades} board, at which point the big blind hurled his hand into the muck and the small blind (Gonzalez again) showed a losing {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Cainelli survives, for now.

Incidentally, the muck-hurl was deemed against the rules by the floor as both players have to show down at the end vs. an all-in. Gonzales got rather hot under the collar and shouted at Thomas Kremser about how this wasn't allowed, and it was ruled that he was correct. His irritation seems to have overcome the double up joy he must have experienced last hand.

Doubling

Some tales of doubling up for you to share.

Double Up 1 - Bruno Launais

Launais doubled up courtesy of Pokerstars Online Qualifier Matthias Lechner when his Ace-Eight Suited stood the test against Lechner's {k-Spades} {q-Hearts}.

Double Up 2 - Claudiu Secara

Secara doubled up courtesy of Emile Jad Yazbeck when his Pocket Queens defeated Yazbeck's {a-Hearts} {j-Hearts} despite a little scare on the flop {9-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {6-Hearts} turn {5-Spades} river {k-Diamonds}.

Torres Smells a Rat

Victorino Torres showed caution on the river when Giacomo Maisto checked to him on a {2-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{J-Hearts} board. The heart on the river and the no-bet from Maisto (who only had about 100k left having built a pot of nearly twice that already) might have been suspicious - he checked behind and was glad he did when Maisto showed {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts} to take the pot and rise to over 300k.

Confusion as Baranov's Luck Runs Out

Online Qualifier Konstantinos Nanos
Online Qualifier Konstantinos Nanos

Team Pokerstars Pro Daniel Negreanu called for the floor when there was confusion in a hand involving Sergii Baranov and Pokerstars Online Qualifier Konstantinos Nanos. Baranov had declared an all-in but Nanos thought it was just a raise. The floorman tried to settle the dispute but we couldn't understand what they were saying as he was speaking in Nanos own language. The decision was irrelevant anyway as Nanos decided to call Baranov's all-in.

Baranov: {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs}

Nanos: {k-Hearts} {k-Clubs}

What as all the fuss about? The flop brought a glimmer of hope for Baranov {7-Spades} {9-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} but the {k-Spades} turn and {2-Spades} river ended Baranov's hopes of EPT glory.

Nanos ~758,000

Erlandsen Backs Down From Sunar, Busts Lechner

Surinder Sunar, unbustable apparently
Surinder Sunar, unbustable apparently

Two hands in a row saw people shove their stacks at Morten Erlandsen, but in very different circumstances. The first attacker was Surinder Sunar, who moved in for 94k into a pot of 100k on the turn of a {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{2-Clubs} board. A long think and some counting later and Erlandsen declined to call.

The second, however, was super-short-stacked Matthias Lechner whose 53k total wasn't enough to get rid of Erlandsen after he'd raised preflop to 18,500. He called with {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and spiked the {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Spades} board vs. Lechner's {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} to send him home in 44th place.
