Bonjour once more from the Casino Barrière where Day 5 of the PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville Main Event is scheduled to start about a half-hour from now. Just 23 players remain from the starting field of 782 to begin this penultimate day of play, with Cyril Andre returning as today's chip leader as the only player to have accumulated more than 2 million chips thus far.
Not far behind Andre is fellow Frenchman Remi Castaignon who is just one 3,000-chip ante shy of 2 million himself. And the next three spots in the counts are presently occupied by players from France as well — Hugo Pingray, Aurelien Guiglini, and Matthieu Herve.
Today's schedule calls for the field to be whittled down to a final eight-handed table to take place on Saturday. The first players to fall today will earn a €23,000 return on their €5,300 investment, but all are eyeing the six-figure prizes awaiting those lasting until the top six spots, with a très formidable first prize of €770,000 up top for the winner.
Coverage begins shortly at noon local time (CET). Come back then to see how the Frenchman and others fare in their battle to reach the EPT Deauville Main Event final table.
Level: 23
Blinds: 10,000/20,000
Ante: 3,000
Table 1 was chosen as the feature table via a vote of PokerStars.tv viewers, picked from the final three by a wide margin.
The first orbit over there began quietly with a series of raise-and-take hands. Finally a hand arose in which Yury Gulyy opened with a minumum-raise and Pascal Aznar called in the big blind.
The flop came . Aznar checked, Gulyy continued for 50,000, and Aznar called. The turn then brought the and another check from Aznar, another bet of 50,000 from Gulyy, and another call from Aznar.
The river then came the , eliciting a bet of 75,000 from Aznar, and Gulyy quickly stepped aside.

"I'm still 18%..." Gaens sighed hopefully.
The flop came .
"A four would be good," stating the obvious.
The hit the turn changing nothing but then the did indeed appear on the river as Post could only sit and look exasperated.

Joining the action on the turn of a board with over 400,000 in the middle already, Remi Castaignon bet 200,000 and Eric Sfez was tanking.
Sfez took a couple of minutes before moving all for 657,000 in total and now Castaignon took some time to think. The cameras surrounded the table but finally Castaignon quietly said, "Call."
Sfez:
Castaignon:
Castaignon needed to avoid an ace, queen or eight and successfully did so when the landed. 22 players remain.

Matthieu Herve opened for 40,000 from under the gun, then Romeo Robert called from a couple of seats over. Gordon Huntly, playing from the cutoff, then made it 100,000 to go, and the action was on chip leader Cyril Andre.
Andre considered for about a half-minute, then slid out a huge tower of gray (5,000) chips for a four-bet to 230,000. That was enough to scatter the blinds, Herve, and Robert, then Huntly went into the tank for two solid minutes before finally letting his hand go as well.
As the chips were swept Andre's way, the Frenchman showed his hand — !

A big hand just developed between Jeffrey Hakim (under the gun) and Noel Gaens (cutoff), with the pair reaching a flop having built a pot of close to 100,000.
Hakim led for 58,000, and when Gaens raised to 124,000, Hakim responded with an all-in shove for around 250,000. Gaens thought a beat, then called, turning over for top pair of tens. Hakim had the best hand, however, with , and after the turn and river, Hakim had scored the double-up.
