Diaz, The Spanish Phenom, Is Here

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

He's not even 20 years old but already Adrian Diaz ranks third on the Spanish all-time money list after winning the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event last fall. Diaz took home a cool million in Paris after beating a stacked final table with including Fabrice Soulier, Dominik Nitsche and Benny Spindler.

Before Diaz burst onto the scene with this epic victory he had already won the Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event in Madrid for €103,053. Diaz has been a regular on the EPT circuit ever since cashing in Prague and twice in Deauville.

The youngest closes in on Raul Paez on the Spanish all-time money list with every cash, but he's still about $10,000,000 short of overtaking the legendary Carlos Mortensen for the top spot.

Roman Goes Wild for the Deuces

Another preliminary event that has completed here at the EPT Vienna was Event #6 €120 NLH Deuce Wild Deepstack. The tournament attracted 192 players and created a prize pool of €18,624.

The Eureka Poker Tour Main Event, which was happening the same day, meant the “Deuces Wild” tournament began with just eight tables. There was a long list of alternates, and over the course of the next two hours the field swelled to approximately 200 players. The tournament organizers seemed a bit overwhelmed, but they were no doubt pleased with the turnout.

Now there are two important rules you must understand in the “Deuces Wild” event. The first is that five of a kind is a legitimate hand, and according to their rankings it beats a straight flush, but not a Royal Flush. The second rule was that a player couldn’t play with pocket deuces. If a player happened to wake up with “ducks” (which happened just once at our table in the first ten levels), they simply tabled the hand and won the blinds and antes. The reason for this, according to one floor, is that having pocket deuces ensures you the nuts no matter what, thus all skill is removed from the game.

Everyone involved seemed to have a good time, though most would admit the strategy was much different than a normal NLHE tournament. Here’s a look at the eight players who figured it out best:

Zubariev Out Drawn

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Markus Stranzinger, a live satellite qualifier from Austria, was in the big blind with a final board showing {8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades}{5-Spades}{k-Spades}. He checked and when Ukrainian PokerStars Player Sergii Zubariev bet Stranzinger check-raised him to 6,500. Zubariev thought about it for a minute but made the call. Stranzinger showed {a-Spades}{5-Spades} for the rivered nut flush and Zubariev showed his {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} straight in frustration as the chips were pushed to his opponent.

Watts Is Here!

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Whoever says that the new generation of poker players is boring to watch clearly has never had the pleasure of being at the same table as United Kingdom's Steve Watts. Watts is here today and started right away with his characteristic table talk.

In a four way pot the flop was checked through and Watts was the only one check calling a 550 bet on the turn {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. On the {4-Spades} on the river Watts checked again. Marc Siebtroth, seated in late position, bet 1,750. And so it began...

"You put me on a missed flush draw?" Watts said. "I have an ace by the way. I think you might have deuces." Watts continued his pondering and kept on talking; "I can't beat much. Show me if I fold? I have ace five by the way."

Eventually Watts mucked his cards, showing {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades} over at the last moment. "Nice bluff" he said. Siebtroth didn't show his cards and silently raked in the chips.

The German Pros Are Here

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

German Team PokerStars Pros Michael Keiner and George Danzer came to play today in Vienna. Keiner is no stranger to poker in Austria as most of his cashes were recorded here. Keiner has $1.35 million in live tournament earnings including an impressive World Series of Poker bracelet win in 2007 when he won the $1,500 Seven Card Stud tournament.

Danzer has just one cash in Austria, as most of his big results were recorded in Las Vegas. Danzer finished in the Top 14 of a bracelet event eight times, but he hasn't managed to close the deal just yet. Danzer's most impressive showing came in 2013 when he finished 5th in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship for $388,523.

Silver Can't Find a Fold

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

On a {J-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} board Simon Brooks check called a bet from Max Silver. We couldn't see how much it was but the river was pretty clear. The {3-Diamonds} hit the table and Brooks bet out 2,800. Silver looked at the situation with pain on his face, and made the call tossing in three 1,000 chips after a couple of seconds of thinking.

Brooks showed his {10-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} which was no match for Silver's {9-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. Max Silver, who finished runner up in the UKIPT Dublin tournament last month, is off to a good start and now has about 36,000.
