Can you fold a pair?

Danish star Martin Wendt just made the call of the tournament so far.

Jeff Lisandro limped in on the button for 150 and Wendt completed the small blind. The player in the big blind made it 550 more and only Wendt called.

The flop came {Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and both players checked.

Turn: {J-Clubs} and the big blind bet 1100. Wendt called.

River {7-Diamonds} and Wendt check-calls another 1750 with {4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, just bottom pair which was good enough against his opponent's unimproved {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}.

Wendt then apologized and blamed the Internet for his being a calling station.

Dan Smith Doubles Up

Just after the level up, a short-stacked Dan Smith doubled back to his starting stack. Smith called a late-position raise in the big blind.

Flop came {6-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Hearts}, Smith bet 1,000, opponent called.

Turn came {3-Hearts}, Smith checked, opponent moved all in and Smith called.

Smith shows {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for top pair.

Opponent shows {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs} for the up and down and misses on the river.

An interesting table sees Jani Sointula, Barny Boatman, Devilfish and Michael Greco battling it out. I can't see Vicky Coren anywhere so we might have lost last year's winner. I will try to get confirmation.

"Like a Virgin"

The Devilfish
The Devilfish
I had a look at Dave Ulliott's table and really wish I had gotten there a minute later as he folded up a napkin to do his Madonna with pointed bra impression. Classy!

He and Vos have both been moved to Liam Flood's table where each hand is now taking three times longer than before as they both battle verbally for table captaincy under the watchful eye of Flood - the schoolmaster - who is back down to 11,000 and looks rather cross.

Flood left the table to cool off and the rumors are that he's had a word with the TD about the childish goings-on at his table.

Hoivold Eliminates Wernick

Micky Wernick
Micky Wernick
Former EPT winner Andreas Hoivold knocks out Micky Wernick.

Hoivold raises and Wernick calls.

Flop comes:

{A-Spades}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades}

Hoivold bets and Wernick calls.

Turn is a:

{7-Clubs}

Hoivold bets enough to put Wernick all in and Wernick calls.

Wernick shows {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}

...and Hoivold has {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}.

No miracle four on the river and Wernick is out. Hoivold, who knows what it takes to win an EPT event, is looking menacing on 40,000.
