"BTPsOverpriced" Claims the 2020 Goliath Day 1 Chip Lead; £231,495 Prize Pool Created

Level 16 : 2,000/5,000, 500 ante
Rick Trigg

"BTPsOverpriced" has come through Day 1 of the 2020 Grosvenor Goliath Main Event to claim the chip lead with a stack worth 1,148,820.

When Day 2 resumes at 2 pm BST on Sunday, August 9, their nearest rivals will be "ChiZhang", "kissmyace1" and "WilfredWallace".

The 2020 Goliath Main Event £100,000 guarantee was more than doubled after 2,013 entries created a £231,495 prize pool.

What that means for the remaining Day 2 players is that they will have their eyes set on the £42,248 first-place prize.

But the first hurdle to conquer will be the money-bubble, with 144 places paid and a min-cash worth £370.

Team Grosvenor's Jamie Nixon, Katie Swift, Andy Hills, Joe Beevers, and Jeff Kimber all made it past the level 13 late registration, but one by one they fell before the end of the action.

The latest addition to the Grosvenor poker team David "TheHayemaker" Haye was also unable to progress to Day 2 after he saw the last of his bullets come to nothing just before the end of the late reg. period. Haye was unlucky at times, and despite a slow start, he did manage to get going, only to run pocket kings into pocket aces.

However, Team Grosvenor will have representation in Day 2 after Rick Trigg ended Day 1 with a 121,057 stack.

Kimber Exits

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante
Jeff Kimber
Jeff Kimber

The action folded around to "PokerPirate1963" in the small blind and moved all in for 130,000. Jeff Kimber was in the big blind and called for 66,000.

"PokerPirate1963": {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Jeff Kimber: {a-Clubs}{4-Spades}

Board: {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}

Kimber lost his lead on the flop and was unable to recover, which meant another Team Grosvenor member departed late into Day 1 of the Goliath.

"M0NG00SE" raised to 10,000 from the hijack and called after Jamie Nixon three-bet shoved for 40,000 from the small blind.

"M0NG00SE": {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Nixon: {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

Board: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}

Hills Loses Short Stack; Beevers Also Exits

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante
Andy Hills
Andy Hills

Andy Hills was down to four big blinds and in the small blind when "Andrei13" raised to 6,000.

Hills put his 11,000 into the middle and "Andrei13" made up the rest.

Hills: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
"Andrei13": {k-Spades}{2-Spades}

Both players hit a pair on the {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, with Hills still holding his lead. But it all changed on the {2-Clubs} turn, and after the {j-Clubs} had appeared on the river, Hills' 2020 Goliath run was over.

Also hitting the rail in Level 14 was Hills' Grosvenor teammate, Joe Beevers.

Swift Departs

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante
Katie Swift
Katie Swift

Katie Swift has become the second Team Grosvenor member to exit after David Haye.

Swift, who was in for a full six bullets like Haye, had found a double-up after the late reg. period closed, but not long after that, her name appeared in the list of eliminations.

No Back-to-Back Cash for "TheHayemaker"

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 250 ante
David Haye
David Haye

With the end of the late reg. period fast approaching David "TheHayemaker" Haye has seen his last chance of returning for Day 2 disappear.

Haye recently lost his final Day 1 bullet, which meant he would not repeat the feat from 2019 when he made a debut run to 40th place.

The newest member of Team Grosvenor will no doubt be continuing his poker education in preparation for next year's Goliath event.

Rick Trigg
Rick Trigg

Rick Trigg raised to 4,250 and 'amaze' three-bet to 12,500.

Trigg moved all in for 67,000 after the action folded back around to him and "amaze" called. Trigg held {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} and was up against {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}.

The {k-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop put Trigg into the lead, and he held on after the {10-Hearts} and {6-Clubs} completed the board.

Trigg, on his fourth bullet, moves up to 135,000.

David "TheHayemaker" Haye is back in action.

Haye lost this third bullet about an hour ago and opted to take a break.

However, the former boxing world champ and new Team Grosvenor member has returned to the online tables and is ready for round four.

Haye has started well and already seen his fresh 25,000 stack rise to 41,000.

House For Hills

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Andy Hills
Andy Hills

"artkat456" called for 1,000, as did "BobsonDugnutt" on the button before Andy Hills shoved for 10,000 from the small blind.

"artkat456" folded but "BobsonDugnutt" called with {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}.

Hills held {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and hit a set on the {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop.

The {9-Diamonds} on the turn, and {3-Diamonds} on the river improved Hills' holding to a house and secured the much needed double up.

Rick Trigg
Rick Trigg

Rick Trigg raised to 1,500 with {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and saw "Gambred" three-bet to 6,100.

Trigg raised all in for 27,200 and "Gambred" called for their last 16,000 before they revealed {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

There was no miracle board for Trigg, and he was left with 9,000.
