Day 1b Started
Today is Day 1b of the HPO St. Louis Regional Main Event begins today at 11:15 am local time. Day 1a saw 74 entries and the field played down to ten players. Today's flight is expected to be bigger and the runners will be looking for a spot in Day 2 to join the likes of HPO Ambassador Chris Moneymaker (125,000) and Day 1a chipleader Bill Haner (243,500).
Last year's champion was Linda Lieder, who took home $48,440 for first, not bad for her first ever cash. She busted relatively early in the day yesterday, but may return for one more chance to defend her title today. Kyle Cartwright, who finished second last year, was also in the field yesterday. He was eliminated in the middle of Day 1a, after he doubled up HPO Lawrenceburg first-place finisher Josh Lowing. Neither made it through to Day 2.
Players will play 14 50-minute levels with a one-hour dinner break after level 8. Registration will stay open until the start of level 9.
Stay tuned to pokernews.com for all the action from Day 1b as players do their best to make Day 2.

Play is underway on Day 1b.
Here are some of the faces from the field who are trying again, after being eliminated in Day 1a.
Damjan Radanov busted in the last two levels of the night and missed out on Day 2. He doubled up twice late, but that wasn't enough and he was eliminated towards the end of last night.
Linda Lieder is the defending champion in this event. She won her first-ever recorded cash last year for $44,480. The runner-up from last year's event is back at it as well. Kyle Cartwright took second place to Lieder and was eliminated yesterday shortly after losing an all in with Josh Lowing, who also returned today.

Todd Kussman had just lost a pot, when he mentioned that he should have won it. His point was affirmed by his neighbor, who pointed out to the dealer that the that Kussman had should have won the pot.
The dealer called over the floorperson and the table recalled that the board was , which would give Kussman two pair with a six. His opponent, who was already awarded the pot, had and would not be the winner if that board was correct.
The floor confirmed the board, and the table mostly agreed that was the board. Then they worked through the betting action to figure out the size of the pot. The total came out to 3,400 and Kussman's opponent handed him 3,400.

Derek Schroeder just played three hands in a row. On all three hands, he opened with a raise and, at some point in the hand, the board paired. There was a lot of action, for very little reward he lost about 300 chips over the three hands.
Hand #1: Stephen Green, a reentry who played yesterday, limped under the gun and Schroeder raised to 325. The big blind and Green both called.
The flop came and the action checked to Schroeder. He bet 450 and Green called. The turn was the and both players checked. The river was the and Green led out for 1,100. Schroeder folded.
Hand #2: On the next hand, Schroeder was the first one in the pot. He raised to 250 and Green called from the big blind. The flop was and Green checked.
Schroeder made it 275 and Green called. The turn was the and Green checked. Schroeder bet 575 and Green folded.
Hand #3: Schroeder opened again, this time to 250 and Clyde Walters was the lone caller, defending from the big blind. The flop was and Walters checked. Schroeder bet 325 and Walters called.
The turn was the and Walters checked again. This time Schroeder made it 650. Walters raised to 1,500 and Schroeder hesitated for a moment before calling. The river was the , completing a flush draw. Walters led out for 1,000 and Schroeder quickly called. Both players showed and chopped the pot.
"That was a lot of work," Walters said with a smile. Schroeder smiled and the dealer chopped the pot.
