Welcome to Day 3 of HPT Golden Gates

HPT Golden Gates Trophy
HPT Golden Gates Trophy

The official final table has been set at the Heartland Poker Tour Golden Gates $1,100 Main Event. Seven hundred and thirty-two entries were logged over four initial flights and the 128 players to advance to Day 2 have been whittled down to nine.

Entering the day with more than double the stack of the next-closest competitor is chip leader Nathaniel Zoller. Zoller comes into the final table with a stack of 7.485 million in chips with just over two minutes remaining in Level 27 (30,000/60,000/60,000). With just two recorded lifetime cashes for a total of $528 in live earnings, this is already Zoller’s biggest score and deepest run of his career and while just eight players stand between him and his first HPT title, the road to victory will not be easy.

Second in chips with a stack of 3.45 million is Dapo Ajayi, a familiar face to tournaments at the Golden Gates Poker Parlour. Ajayi has experience with deep runs, having made final tables of main events for the HPT, MSPT, and Colorado Poker Championships all here in Black Hawk just within the past year to contribute to his total lifetime earnings of just over $500,000.

The next six players on the leaderboard are all within the range of 1.115 to 2.15 million in chips, being separated by what will be less than 15 big blinds after the last two-plus minutes of Level 27 roll off the clock.

The shortest stack entering the day is Nick Pupillo, finding himself looking up at the other eight players on the leaderboard coming into the day as the shortest stack with 675,000 in chips. Pupillo is the most acclaimed player in the field with over $2.6 million in live earnings. He is also currently in second place on the HPT Season XV Player of the Year leaderboard and slated to take the lead in that race regardless of where he finishes today.

Cards will fly on the final table at noon local time at the Gates in the upstairs overflow room with a live stream following on a 30-minute delay. Levels will remain at 40 minutes in length until heads-up play begins, at which point they will become 30 minutes each until the $152,671 first-place prize has been claimed. Updates will be provided here at PokerNews all day long to correspond with HPT’s live stream. Stay glued to both and make sure to catch all the action as a victor is determined.

Austin Peck
Austin Peck

After winning a blind-on-blind battle from the big blind against Nathaniel Zoller for a 2.7 million-chip pot where he won with a bet on the river, Austin Peck found action folded to him in the small blind. He completed and Maxx Holland checked his option.

The flop came {4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} and Peck bet 125,000. Holland peeled and the turn came {6-Spades}. Peck checked to Holland, who bet 425,000. Peck made the call.

The river fell {7-Clubs} and Peck checked once more. Holland fired out a bet of 875,000 and Peck thought for a few moments before making the call.

Holland tabled {9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, showing two napkins while Peck turned over {q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for queens up and took down the pot.

With the pot, Peck has now taken the chip lead for the tournament, though Zoller is still firmly second in chips in front of the rest of the field.

Dapo Ajayi Eliminated in 6th Place ($23,999)

Level 32 : 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Dapo Ajayi
Dapo Ajayi

Down to his final 1.5 million in chips, Dapo Ajayi shoved all in from the cutoff. Scott Horvath was in the small blind and went all in over the top to get Nathaniel Zoller out of the hand and the two turned up their hands.

Dapo Ajayi: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Scott Horvath: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

The flop fell {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Ajayi was in good shape to double. The turn came {7-Hearts} to give Horvath nine more outs to a flush.

After correctly predicting cards all day, Ajayi was in need of fading the river to stay alive and double. Unfortunately for him, his run came to an end as the dealer burned and turned the river {q-Clubs} and his run finished as the 6th place finisher.

Level 32 : 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Nathaniel Zoller
Nathaniel Zoller

Albert Winchester shoved all in for 1.4 million from the cutoff and Scott Horvath called from the button. Nathaniel Zoller looked back at his cards in the small blind and went all in over the top for 2 million. Horvath made the call for around 600,000 more.

Albert Winchester: {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}
Scott Horvath: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Nathaniel Zoller: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Zoller found himself in excellent position to earn a knockout and more than a double, while Winchester was in need of hitting a set to triple up. The flop came {9-Clubs}{q-Spades}{9-Hearts} to give Horvath a pair of queens and pick up two more outs at the double elimination. The turn was {10-Spades} and Zoller was one card away from securing the pot.

However, the river came {a-Diamonds} and spelled doom for both players as Horvath improved to aces up and sent Zoller and Winchester both home in one hand.
